Chapter 99
These kids all come from serious money-heirs to massive corporate empires or children of high-ranking politicians. They all know the rumors about Tara’s disappearance. When she finally returned to the city, she became icy and distant, completely cutting herself off from their social circle. But the gossip never stopped.
Being heavily involved in high-society drama, they are all very close with Jade. Jade, being the manipulative social climber she is, frequently feeds them twisted lies about Tara, wrapping her vicious rumors in a thick layer of fake sympathy. As a result, this entire clique despises Tara.
The ringleader, a wealthy heir named Harvey, leans back in his chair with a mocking grin. “We were all so worried when we heard the news. But you look like you’re doing great! Guess life as a mountain bride really suited you.”
The girl next to him, Lydia, covers her mouth as she giggles. “Seriously. I heard the whole village had to share one wife!”
Tara doesn’t even blink. Her expression remains deadpan as she sets her chopsticks down. “Can I help you?”
“What, we can’t catch up with an old friend?” the other guy, Quinton, sneers loudly. His eyes drift over to Danny, and a nasty smirk spreads across his face. “Wow, you upgraded fast. What happened to locking down Evan?”
They are doing this entirely to humiliate her in public. Tara knows Lydia and Jade are best friends. Jade constantly showers Lydia with expensive gifts and plays the battered, abused sister routine to perfection. These idiots actually think they are delivering righteous justice.
Danny stares at the group, an arctic chill radiating from his eyes. His perfect dinner date has just been crashed by a pack of rabid dogs. It is nothing short of a death wish. He glances at Tara, who looks completely unbothered. She calmly takes a sip of water and sets her glass
down.
Lydia takes one look at Danny and is immediately struck by intense, bitter jealousy. The man is breathtakingly handsome and clearly wealthy. Desperate to ruin it, she raises her voice. “Hey, handsome. Just a friendly warning. The girl sitting across from you is a known homewrecker. She loves stealing other people’s boyfriends. And honestly, she spent years in the mountains. God knows how many kids she popped out while she was there.”
Danny doesn’t break eye contact with Lydia. A faint, terrifying smile touches his lips. “Perfect. I love a woman with a wild past. It just means she’s charming.”
Tara shoots him an incredulous look. What is he talking about?
“Are… are you out of your mind?” Lydia stammers, staring at him like he belongs in an asylum. “You actually want a slut?”

Danny gives a casual shrug. “You’re very perceptive. I am out of my mind. Luckily, Tara is a doctor and she’s been treating my condition”
