Chapter 206 Picking Locks?
“Why are you so impatient? I’m opening it, aren’t I? And who cares if someone’s here. This is our house!” Julia sai annoyed.
Her hands trembled as she tried to work the wire into the lock, but no matter how she moved it, the wire just wou
the tumbler.
She’d watched other people pick locks before and thought it looked easy, just poke the wire in and it pops open. that she was doing it herself, she realized it was definitely not as easy as it looked.
Her fingers were marked red from the wire, but the lock didn’t budge at all.
Julia gritted her teeth, pulled a screwdriver out of her bag, and got ready to brute–force the lock.
Natalie stood behind them, hands in her pockets, coldly watching the mother and son perform their little act in fro
Her expression was so calm, it bordered on indifference.
She looked at the backs of their heads, a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “This lock’s been reinforced. It’s pretty to pick. Need me to help you guys out?”
Julia was so startled that the screwdriver clattered to the floor, and she jumped as if she’d been zapped.
She whirled around, eyes wide in disbelief, only to find Natalie standing right behind her, barely two steps away.
Julia’s face, usually hidden, now flashed every emotion in the book. She opened her mouth a few times before finall stammering, “W–When did you get behind me?”
Michae! was startled too. “Why are you here?”
Natalie kept her hands in her pockets, tilted her head, and retorted, “This is my house. Why wouldn’t I be here?”
‘Your house? This is my mother–in–law’s house, and it belongs to the Grant family. What’s an outsider like you doing Julia said with absolute confidence.
She stood ramrod straight, tetally unapologetic.
‘Me, an outsider?” Natalie echoed, her tone icy.
She stepped forward, eyes narrowed. “Grandma hasn’t had anything to do with the Grant family for a long time. So wh you supposed to be?”
Then she glanced at Larkin. “Call the police. Arrest the thieves.”
Michael’s expression shifted instantly when he heard Natalie was about to call the cops. “Natalie, why are you calling t police? I’m Grandma’s real grandson. I just wanted to see her because I missed her, that’s all.
‘It’s just a big misunderstanding!”
As he spoke, he grabbed Julia and tried to hustle her out of there. The Grant family was already barely keeping their hei above water. They really couldn’t let any more bad news get out.
He knew Natalie. Once she made up her mind, she never backed down.
Michael closed his eyes for a second. When Grandma passed away, she didn’t leave a will, and Natalie had already been cast out of the Grant family. She was no longer part of their lives
There’s plenty of time ahead Sooner or later, ah this stuff would be his anyway. No need to rush night now
Julia got the message, gave Natalie a daty look, and quickly left
Natalie’s icy stare tracked them “Set lost if I catch you here again, I won’t hesitate to wipe the Grant family off the map.”
Julia didn’t look at her, but hearing Natalie talk so wildly made her so furious she had to squeeze her eyes shut
What an ungrateful brat. That old woman was a jinx She picked up this loser while she was alive, and even after she’s dead, she’s still causing trouble for us, Julia fumed inwardly
The two of them jumped into the car and sped off in a panic
Natalie watched the car’s taillights for a couple seconds before turning back
“Keep an eye on the door for a while Don’t let them in,” she said
Larkin nodded ‘Got it‘
Since leaving the Grant family. Natalie hadn’t bothered with their business. But seeing how things went down today, it was obvious they d hit rock bottom Now they were after Grandma’s things
Chapter 70% P
That night, Jacob went to bed early, and Natalie took the chance to give him acupuncture while he was asleep
Natalie was in the middle of the acupuncture session when Larkin walked in
He looked at Natalie M Gardener, there are people outside. They say they’re here to see Mr. Miller.”
Natalie didn’t even look up, her hands still moving as she gave a calm “Mm to show she’d heard.
Larkin nodded and quietly slipped out, closing the door behind him.
In the yard, a man and a woman, both around forty, waited respectfully. The man looked like he was mixed race, were dressed to impress
When Larkin came out, the man stepped forward and asked, “Hi, has Mr. Milier said if he’ll see us?”
Larkin didn’t answer, just motioned for them to take a seat and went to make some coffee.
The two exchanged a glance, their faces brightening. That meant they were welcome.
Larkin poured them some coffee and said, “Just a moment.”
The two nodded, and the man tried to make conversation with Larkin. “Hey, are you close to Mr. Miller?”
He sized Larkin up. He looked young, but carried himself with a steady confidence, and there was something abc that said he wasn’t just some regular kid.
But then he figured, anyone who could live out here in the countryside with Mr. Miller must be one of his favorite ( or someone really close to him.
Larkin didn’t answer, just smiled, raised his cup slightly toward them in a silent toast, then took a sip.
The two of them followed suit, raising their cups for a sip, and after that, they didn’t say another word.
After about ten minutes, they heard the door to the inner room open.
The two of them quickly got to their feet, straightened their clothes, put on their best smiles, and looked eagerly to doorway.
But when the curtain lifted, it wasn’t the old gentleman they expected. Instead, out walked a young woman, probabl early twenties, wearing a black hoodie and a low ponytail, casual, confident, and unmistakably female.
The two of them paused, a bit thrown off, then asked hesitantly, “Is Mr. Miller not here?”
Natalie gave them a quick look, gestured for them to sit down, and then took a seat herself.
‘Grandpa’s resting. If you need anything, just talk to me,” she said.
She kept things polite, figuring that anyone who managed to find this place had to be someone Jacob was okay with etting in on his whereabouts, so these were definitely guests he meant to see.
Natalie settled into the wicker chair, crossed her legs casually, picked up the fresh cup of coffee Larkin had poured, an look a sip, waiting for them to start talking.
The man snapped out of his daze, pushed up his glasses, and took his seat again on the stone bench.
His eyes paused on Natalie’s face for a second, as if sizing up just how important this young worka was to Jacob.
