Chapter 239
Chapter 239
Apartment 6, Causeway Bay.
As evening drew near, Rosie, arms full of little things, unlocked the door with Natalie and went inside.
“Hurry, hurry, hurry, Natalie! Uncle Henry’s almost home!” Rosie urged.
Natalie leaned against the doorframe, watching Rosie take out each item from the bag one by one.
There were balloons, streamers, garlands, and a silver banner with “Happy Birthday” written in big letters.

Rosie pumped up the balloons and said, “Henry hasn’t celebrated his birthday since my mom passed away. Now that I’n around, I’m going to make sure he has an unforgettable birthday.”
Natalie listened quietly, then knelt down beside her to help.
“Why isn’t the cake I ordered here yet? Is Henry almost done with work? It’s still raining outside. I really hope it arrives before he gets home!” Rosie said.
Afraid Henry would catch them inside, they kept the lights off and just used their phone flashlights to see.
Just as they finished putting up the decorations, the front door suddenly made a mechanical unlocking sound, catching them off guard. “Face recognition successful. Door unlocked.”
Rosie and Natalie were crouched by the door, and by the time they heard it, it was already too late.
Rosie jumped up in shock, but her foot slipped on a streamer and she lost her balance, crashing right into Natalie, who w just getting up.
In the darkness, Natalie’s gaze sharpened, and she instinctively threw out her arms to catch Rosie. But Rosie’s momentum was too much, and Natalie, still unsteady herself, nearly toppled backward. Natalie’s brow jumped. There was an iron shoe rack behind her, so she instinctively twisted to avoid hitting it.
Just as Henry stepped inside, he barely had time to react before a soft body tumbled right into his arms
His hands moved before his brain could catch up. He instinctively grabbed her by the waist, steadying them toch
In the darkness, he breathed in that familiar scent, not perfume, but her own, faint and fresh, like grass atter as T His hand lingered on her waist, not letting go, and his heart raced a few beats faster
His pupils contracted. He knew right away who was in his arms.
Natalie had no support. Rosie had her arms wrapped around her, leaving Natalie’s whole weight supported by the army’s
behind her.
Her back was pressed against his chest, and through the fabric, she could feel the warmth of his hand, which stood out against the chilly draft coming in from the door
Rosie was sprawled all over her like an octopus, still shaken from the scare, muttering. That really treaked me out that really freaked me out!”
Natalie frowned and shifted a bit, signaling for Rosie to get up, and for the person behind her to help her up

His hand was still on her wars, palm pressed against the fabric at her side, feeling the subtle rise and fall as she breathed.
He looked down at her. In the darkness, he couldn’t see her expression, but he could make out the swirl at the top of her head, the small patch of pale skin behind her ea, and her hair draped over her shoulder.
Rosie said, “Natalie, are you okay?”
She finally snapped out of it, scrambled off Natalie, and fumbled in the dark to turn on the lights.
With a snap, the living room lights came on.
The blinding white light flooded the room, showing off the streamers and balloons everywhere, Henry standing at the doo and Natalie still in his arms.
Rosie stared at Natalie, still sprawled in Henry’s arms, her mouth agape and blinking in disbelief.
Henry? Why are you home already?” Rosie stammered, flustered.
Natalie used Henry’s strong arm for support as she got to her feet, then stooped to pick up her phone from the floor.
Henry glanced at his hand, now empty, and felt a subtle pang of disappointment.
He curled his fingers slightly before dropping his hand to his side. “I didn’t go to work today. Since it was raining, I decided o come home early.”
As he spoke, Henry glanced at the decorations around the living room and stopped short, surprised. “Wait… you guys were setting all this up just now?”
Rosie grinned awkwardly, a little embarrassed. “Yeah, but we were still getting things ready when you showed up early
Natalie glanced at the mess on the floor, stifled a cough behind her hand, and looked over at Henry. “Maybe you could step out again?”
Henry gave her a crooked smile, his expression a mix of resignation and fondness.
‘Should I just head out and let you two finish up?” he asked.
Natalie nodded, dead serious.
Henry chuckled softly, turned around, opened the door, and walked out.
The door closed softly behind him with a gentle click
Rosie and Natalie worked fast, hanging up the last streamers, tying the balloons, and straightening the banner In no tomos the living room looked amazing
Rosie took a couple sieps back, grinned, and nodded approvingly Perfect!”
Natalie stood up, dusted off her hands, and walked over to the door She knocked twice, signaling Henry, it was okay to code
Henry was leaning against the hallway wall hands in his pockets When he heard the knock, he turned and opened the door

As soon as he stepped inside, streamers rained down from above and the cozy golden lights flickered on, bathing the room
in warmth.
Rosie and Natalie stood by the door, still clutching the garland ribbons in their bands
Rosie beamed, her eyes sparkling Happy birthday, Henry!”
Natalie smiled softly at him. “Happy birthday.”
Rosie clapped her hands and pulled Henry over to the center of the decorated room.
They both started singing the birthday song together. “Happy birthday to you- Happy birthday to you- Happy birthday to you- Happy birthday to you-”
