The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 262

Chapter 262

Dominic was so shaken by Chris’s suspicion that his expression changed instantly.

“You’re serious?”

Who would have the nerve to do something like that? To poison Mrs. Xander Sr.?

Everyone knew Mrs. Xander Sr. had been kind and gentle. She was known for her good temper, her generosity, and all the charity work she did. She had never been harsh with the staff, either. The day she passed away, everyone in the Xander household had cried.

Dominic had spent a lot of time at the Xander estate when he was growing up. Whenever he wore himself out playing and got sleepy, Mrs. Xander Sr. would scoop him into her arms and joke that he ought to become her grandson too. Even after he grew up, she would still call him over to eat with her from time to time.

Even now, he still felt weighed down whenever he thought about her death. He had never really gotten over it.

So when Gavin told him Mrs. Xander Sr. had refused to let Winter appear at her funeral, Dominic’s feelings toward Winter had become a little complicated too. That was why he hadn’t gone to the side gate to see her himself. He had only sent someone to bring her a cushion.

Who could be cruel enough to poison Mrs. Xander Sr.?

I can’t be completely sure yet.” Chris set the test report on the coffee table. Right now, they had no real evidence and no leads.

While Mrs. Xander Sr. was alive, she had gone through several rounds of testing, and nothing unusual had ever shown up. The bloodwork had come back normal too. No one would have thought to suspect poison.

But aside from that, every other possibility had already been ruled out.

If it had been radiation exposure, then Mr. White and her live–in assistant, who were with her every day, couldn’t possibly have been perfectly fine.

That left only one possibility.

Poisoning.

Once a person was dead, looking into something like this became much harder.

Dominic thought it over. “Then this has to be investigated quietly, and it may take time. When did Mrs. Xander Sr. first start feeling sick?”

“On December 20, she went to the hospital for a physical. She had already been feeling unwell for about a week before that. Around December 13,” Chris said in an even tone.

Dominic nodded at first, then suddenly realized Chris had answered almost without thinking.

“You remember that pretty clearly.”

He knew Chris had a good memory, but this was different. Chris seemed unusually clear on the date December 20.

“Jacob Jasper died on December 19.”
