If she slipped away quietly, Chris would have no reason to take it out on them.

After getting up, Winter packed her luggage. A lot of things could be bought once she got to Merika, so she only brought two changes of clothes and Mrs. Xander Sr.’s photo album.

After she finished packing, she checked the time and headed to the airport.

It was the weekend, and traffic was light at that hour. After driving to the airport, she checked in her car key and sat in the waiting area for boarding.

She wore a mask and a hat, then habitually opened the news.

A chill spread from Winter’s fingertips straight to her heart.

It was all too deliberate. Too obvious.

Just as she tapped into the full article, a burst of hurried footsteps came from outside the waiting area. She looked up on instinct.

A mass of bodyguards instantly sealed off the exit of the lounge.

They parted to make a path, and Steve slowly walked forward in a sharply tailored suit. He curled his lips into a

smile.

“Winnie, where do you think you’re going?”

Inside a room lit by amber-colored lights, the curtains were tightly shut. Steve drank as he stared at Winter, who hadn’t yet woken up after the maids changed her into a gown.

She was wearing the same gown she had worn to the charity dinner at Windham Gardens. After that night, she had taken it off and asked someone to return it to the store. Instead, he had brought it home and kept it hanging in his

closet.

He drained the glass in one swallow, then set it down and went to the bathroom for a shower. When he came out, he was wearing a dark gray robe.

After downing half a bottle of liquor, he walked to the bed and sat beside her.
