Zion was speechless.
Why did he suddenly feel like he had nothing to say?
“Easy, easy.” Winter helped Roy over to the couch and lowered him carefully into a seat.
“You should think about what Zion said,” she told him. “He’s a man, so it would be easier for him to help take care of you.”
Roy set his cane beside the armrest and looked at Winter in silence for a moment. Then he typed on his phone, “I don’t like living with other people. And I’m not used to restaurant food.”
Winter fell silent.
He sure had a lot of preferences.
That was when she noticed the grocery bag Zion had set on the table. Inside were vegetables and meat. Roy had just bought them himself.
Was he seriously planning to cook for himself?
The thought of him standing in the kitchen on a cane, washing vegetables, cutting meat, and trying to cook made Winter feel bad.
She stood up, took off her coat, and rolled up her sleeves. “I’ll cook for you.‘
Roy typed, “Wouldn’t that be too much trouble?”
“It’s not trouble. My cooking isn’t exactly great, though, so you’ll have to make do. If you really can’t eat it, then we’ll just put up with takeout for a few days.”
Roy nodded once.
Zion followed her into the kitchen too. He couldn’t cook, but he could at least help out. Washing vegetables was no problem.
The kitchen was open to the living room. The moment Roy looked up, he saw Winter standing at the counter, serious and focused as she prepared the ingredients. His eyes stayed on her.
So this was what she had looked like in the kitchen during the year he couldn’t see.
“Roy, do you eat spicy food?” Winter suddenly asked, lifting her head,
The depth in his eyes faded at once, settling back into calm. He nodded.
As Winter worked on the ingredients, she realized this was only the second time she had ever cooked for someone else.
The first person she had cooked for didn’t eat spicy food.
But she liked spicy food herself. The first time she cooked, she got so caught up in what she was doing that she added chili without thinking. Chris had coughed his way through the meal while eating it. After that, she stopped putting chili in the dishes she made for him.
