The Scorned Heiress's Hidden Empire (by Jade Quinn) novel Chapter 317

When William got back to the room, the hospital door was already standing open.

“What happened?” he asked, picking up his pace in alarm.

The doctor behind him and Zion in front of him both moved at once to steady him.

William, Ms. Scott was taken by Chris,” Zion said, guilt written all over his face as he looked at him. “I’m sorry, William. I…”

William sucked in a sharp breath, and pain shot through the wound in his abdomen. He stared at the empty hospital bed. He had only been gone a few minutes, and Chris had already shown up like a bloodhound.

He glanced at Zion, who looked sick with guilt, and forced himself to stay calm. “Did you get hurt?”

Hearing that William was still worried about him at a time like this only made Zion feel worse.

The moment he saw Chris, he had gone on guard. He had a feeling Winter’s condition had something to do with him, and no matter what, he couldn’t let Chris get near her again.

But no favor Gavin asked could matter more than Winter.

Even so, in that brief instant of distraction, Gavin subdued him. He barely even had to try, and he didn’t leave a single mark on him.

A black Bentley moved smoothly down the road.

With her chance to escape gone, Winter was pinned tightly in Chris’s arms. One of his broad hands cradled the back of her head, pressing her face against his chest. Hearing the steady thud of his heartbeat, Winter felt like she was losing her mind.

She let out a mocking laugh. “Where are you taking me?”

Chris answered, and the vibration of his voice in his chest seemed to echo straight against her ear. “I’m taking you home.

For a moment, confusion flickered across Winter’s face.

Home?

Her home?

Did he mean her apartment at Westbay?

The house at Westbury?

The Xander estate?

Or Blackwood Manor?

The hollow, lost look in her eyes made something in his expression suddenly tighten. He pulled her closer and called her name almost instinctively.

“Winter.
