Chapter 358
What he had never expected was that after he lost his sight, someone would take an aerial photo of the crescent shaped lake and publish it in a magazine.
And she, having forgotten everything, was drawn to that lake all over again.
The empty space in his arms shattered the dream like a mirror breaking apart.
Chris opened his eyes sharply and immediately saw Winter leaning near the cabin door.
Her hand was too close to it.
So close that an image flashed through his mind. A year ago, she had pulled open the terrace door and tried to jump from the upper floor.
His breathing tightened. He yanked her back into his arms and stared into her alcohol-flushed eyes. His voice came out hoarse and strained.
“What are you trying to do?”
Winter was startled by the force of his emotion, raw and uncontrolled. Then she noticed the tense, faintly trembling fingers gripping her arm, and she realized where she had been sitting.
Only then did she understand.
He had thought she was going to open the cabin door and jump.
But she couldn’t be bothered to explain. She would never do something like that.
Instead, she asked, “Weren’t we supposed to leave the island tomorrow? Why are we leaving early?”
Chris stared into her eyes, searching for even the slightest trace of something wrong. Only after confirming that she had no intention of hurting herself did his tense fingers loosen a little.
When he spoke again, his voice had returned to normal, though his throat still sounded rough.
“Weren’t you dying to leave? I’m taking you back early. Aren’t you happy?”
Winter knew something must have happened for him to leave ahead of schedule.
But even if she asked, he wouldn’t tell her.
It didn’t matter. What mattered was that she could finally return to Liono City.
She pressed her fingers to her temple. “What kind of alcohol did you give me?”
“You have no tolerance, and now you’re blaming the alcohol?” Chris said, pulling her back by the arm and making
her sit on the couch.
Winter knew her tolerance wasn’t great, but it wasn’t that bad either.
Had Chris secretly switched the alcohol?
She couldn’t tell whether she felt more regretful or angry. She still had seven questions left to ask
