Chapter 372
Try making them?
Was she using him as a guinea pig?
“All right, Roy. Go sit on the couch. I’ll call you when the food is ready.”
Winter put on an apron and started prepping the ingredients.
Roy didn’t leave. Instead, he stood off to the side with his cane, watching her slightly chaotic figure move around the kitchen.
Only when the phone in his left pocket buzzed did he finally make his way to the living room and sit down on the couch.
He took out his phone. Gavin had sent him a draft of the public clarification.
He didn’t read it. A second later, Gavin sent another message.
“Mr. Xander, the clarification statement is ready.”
Holding the phone in one hand, Chris replied, “Leave the rest until I get back.”
“Yes, sir.‘
Zion went out to the balcony to take a call.
Winter was reaching for the jar of chili paste on the upper shelf. They had not used it last time, and Zion had casually put it somewhere that was easy for him to reach, but completely out of reach for her.
Just as she was about to grab a chair to stand on, a hand reached past her ear and took an unopened jar down from
the cabinet.
Winter turned and saw Roy holding it. He twisted off the lid and handed it to her.
“Thanks, Roy. Being tall really does come in handy.” Winter took it with a smile and turned back toward the stove.
He stood there quietly, watching her move around the kitchen.
The simple warmth of it made the whole place feel like home.
He simply watched in silence.
Winter finished putting together a spicy stew and covered the pot. When she turned around, she realized Roy was
still in the kitchen.
“Why aren’t you in the living room?” Her eyes were clear and bright. “You don’t seem to watch TV much. Your place is so quiet.”
Roy looked at her silently. Then he turned and left the kitchen with his cane.
A moment later, he came back with the TV remote and handed it to her.
Winter took it, confused. “Do you want me to pick something I like?”
