A few seconds later, he said flatly, “Aren’t you afraid Mr. Xander will withdraw the statement?”
Her lips suddenly curved into a cold smile.
“I think I’d be fine even if Chris withdrew it. He’s the one who urgently needs something from me. I’m not in any hurry to have him. I’ve waited all these years. A little longer won’t matter. Besides, if I make Chris divorce Winter and marry me instead, wouldn’t that hurt Winter even more?”
Gavin waved a hand, signaling the bodyguard to step back.
Then he said coldly, “Do you know why I was in such a hurry to make you take this pill?”
Skyla’s expression froze slightly.
“Because sending the pill for testing would take too long. Feeding it to you directly would be much easier. We would know the result right away.” His eyes were cold. “And if I’m right, this pill isn’t the antidote at all. It’s poison.”
A chill ran down Skyla’s spine. She stared at Gavin without blinking.
After a long moment, she finally found her voice.
“Was that Chris’s idea?”
“Where is the real antidote?”
A dark figure appeared at the doorway above the stairs.
Skyla suddenly looked up and met Chris’s cold, condescending gaze. Her lips trembled.
“Chris…”
She struggled violently in the basement.
“Listen to me, Chris. I just wanted some protection for myself. I didn’t mean to lie to you. Believe me. As long as you divorce Winter and marry me, I’ll tell you where the antidote is.”
From where Chris stood above her, his eyes swept over Skyla. In the moment she struggled, a flash of light briefly appeared near her collarbone.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
Skyla was full of tricks, and she was ruthless.
She wanted to use the poison to control him, but she was also too afraid to die.
That meant the antidote could only be hidden in the most dangerous and unexpected place.
“Gavin,” Chris said. “Take the necklace off her neck.”
The moment Chris finished speaking, Gavin didn’t hesitate. He reached for Skyla’s neck.
“No!” Skyla’s face changed sharply. She backed away in panic and curled in on herself.
But the wall was behind her, and she had nowhere to go. Gavin tore the necklace from her neck.
The pendant was shaped like a full heart.
