Only after the little boy finally managed to turn over did Chris gently steady the back of his head through the suit.
The little boy lay on his stomach near the edge of the bed and looked up at him.
His round eyes curved into a smile, and his small, soft voice came out weakly.
“Da…”
“Yes. It’s Daddy.” Chris touched his round little head, then carefully gathered him into his arms.
He touched the little boy’s fingers, then his tiny feet. The child stared at him with big, dark eyes. His small hands waved twice before dropping weakly again.
He looked completely confused, as if he couldn’t understand why he couldn’t touch the person holding him.
Seeing that, Chris took his little hand and pressed it against his chest through the protective suit.
Maybe the child felt the strong beat of his heart, because a faint light came into his round eyes.
In that same soft, weak voice, he called again, “Da… Daddy.”
Chris watched him quietly, then stroked his round little head once more. He took the bottle from the nurse and fed
him.
His movements were practiced. The little boy lay in his arms and tried hard to suck from the bottle.
But he was too weak. Before he could finish the milk, he fell asleep again.
One small hand rested against the bottle, while the other clutched Chris’s protective suit tightly.
The hand on the bottle slowly slipped down, but the hand gripping Chris’s suit didn’t loosen for a long time.
Chris didn’t force his fingers open. He simply continued to hold him.
The little boy’s head rested against his chest, and he slept peacefully.
There were no tremors in his limbs, no frown on his face, no murmuring, and no quiet sobs in his sleep.
Chris’s expression finally eased.
The medical staff, along with Gavin, who was also wearing a protective suit, all let out a quiet breath of relief.
It looked like the antidote was already starting to work.
After placing the little boy back on the bed, Chris stood and left the ICU.
