SEWER 407
Chapter 447
Winter was helped back against the headboard. Her voice was weak.
“Thank you.”
Her gaze swept over Roy’s hand, still hanging at his side in its black compression glove.

Then she said to Zion, “I threw up the medicine just now. Zion, could you go to the nurses’ station and ask them for another dose?”
Zion nodded and immediately turned to leave.
Winter’s face was pale from vomiting. She had only just closed her eyes when nausea rose again. She turned over and leaned over the side of the bed.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Roy come forward with his cane. He copied what Zion had done earlier and patted her back. Once she managed to catch her breath, he held her shoulders and helped her lean back against the headboard.
Just as he straightened, Winter suddenly grabbed his wrist.
She used all the strength she had to hold on to him. Her cold fingers trembled uncontrollably.
Her eyes, still red from retching, locked onto his dark brown ones.
Winter suddenly remembered the motto she had loved since she was young.
Rely on yourself. Trust only your eyes.
Back then, she had written it on the first page of almost every notebook she owned. The people closest to her all knew it.
It had once been a private reminder to stay clear-headed, to believe what she saw, and to never let anyone else decide the truth for her.
Roy Toye.
The name struck her like a blade of ice.
Rely on Yourself.
Trust Only Your Eyes.
The initials matched too perfectly to be a coincidence.
“You…” Her voice was dry and hoarse. “Who are you really?”
Through the fabric, she felt the muscles in the man’s arm go/taut.
Beneath the brim of his baseball cap, his dark brown eyes shifted slightly.
“Is your name really Roy Toye?”
Before everything happened, when she was planning to become a freelance journalist, she had thought about using a pen name inspired by that motto.
If the accident hadn’t happened afterward, she probably would have tracked him down and asked him the truth herself.

Her illness had made her unstable. The brain fog had made it hard to think. But in this moment, she was strange clear.
The man in front of her had taught her how to fight. He had taught her how to shoot.
