Chris felt Winter go rigid in his arms

Then, somehow, she found the strength to break free. She shoved him away with everything she had.

“Chris Xander!”

She was breathing hard as she looked up at him. Her eyes had been empty before, but now hatred flooded them because of what he had just said.

Pure, undisguised hatred.

The red veins in her eyes made the sight almost frightening.

“How dare you…”

Her face twisted in pain. Tears fell as she gritted her teeth. “How dare you lie to me about our child?”

The pain crashed over her like a wave. She clutched the front of her hospital gown and hunched over, but even curled in on herself, she could barely stay upright.

If Chris hadn’t caught her shoulders again, she would have fallen from the bed.

But Winter didn’t seem to care.

Memories from more than a year ago flashed through her mind. She saw herself lying in the hospital, broken and helpless. Those memories had once been blurred, but now they came back with brutal clarity, as if they had happened only yesterday.

She remembered the emptiness in her body.

The emptiness in her heart.

She remembered the doctors taking the baby away. She had cried and begged them to let her see him just once, but no one had let her.

They said the baby was already gone. They said they were afraid seeing him would only make her grief worse.

But she had only wanted one look.

Even that small plea had been denied.

It took William several seconds to react. Then he snapped, furious and alarmed, “Chris Xander, even now, you still…”

There was a locked folder on his phone with several videos of Richie inside. No one could open it except Gavin himself. If anyone tried to force it open, the videos would automatically be erased.
