The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon
Sonia doesn’t interrupt me once. She remains silent, holding my hand between hers until I’ve finished speaking.
“Magnus told me a great deal of that story, and I’m grateful that you wanted to tell it to me yourself. He also told me everything you’ve done since you became part of our family. You’ve traveled to the southern part of the kingdom. earned the affection of people who’ve spent decades mistrusting everyone, improved their lives, and restored the dignity they’d lost. Amelie would be very proud of you if she were still alive.”
I can’t help lowering my gaze.
“Thank you, Sonia… but I didn’t do it to impress anyone or to win the people’s approval. I did it because I wanted to. Besides… I needed to feel useful.”
She nods slowly.
“I know. That’s exactly why it means so much.”
She squeezes my hand a little tighter before continuing.
“But your role in this kingdom isn’t limited to charity work. You, little wolf, will have to learn to be strong, brave, and develop a commanding character if you don’t want the Thorn walking beside you to lose his way.”
The seriousness that settles over her face makes me straighten my back almost instinctively.
“Silas, Magnus, Bastian… and every Thorn who came before them was born with war running through their veins. It’s part of who they are. No matter how much he loves you, the day will come when my grandson misses the battlefield. He’ll miss the adrenaline, the danger, and the blood. He’ll feel the need to fight again.”
She falls silent for a few seconds before continuing.
“Don’t let that happen. Keep him grounded. Distract him with other responsibilities. Give him a family, children, reasons to stay by your side. Make your home weigh more heavily than any war ever could. And above all… don’t let another woman try to take the place that belongs to you.”
Her eyes harden.
“I made that mistake, and it still hurts.”
I frown slightly as I watch the sadness settle over Sonia’s face once more.
“Because Silas cheated on you with his friend.”
A bitter smile touches her lips. She slowly shakes her head and turns her gaze toward the greenhouse’s towering windows, where sunlight filters through the dust-covered glass and illuminates the forgotten plants that still refuse to surrender to time.
“No… she wasn’t his friend.”
“She was mine.”
“They both betrayed me.”
A knot forms in my throat, and I swallow with difficulty before looking into her blue eyes once more.
