Chapter 116
Anne clenches her fists until her knuckles turn white.
“I’m not leaving until I speak to my mate.”
As though the Goddess herself had been waiting for those exact words, the massive doors to the great hall swing open with a deep sound that echoes between the towering stone columns. Every head turns toward the entrance. The air/itself seems to grow heavier as four figures cross the threshold with the quiet confidence of those who have no need to announce their presence.
Magnus enters first, as imposing as a mountain. His shoulders are squared, his expression hardened, and he radiates the unquestionable authority of a king. Every step he takes across the polished marble carries such certainty that everyone present straightens instinctively. A few paces behind him walks Silas. He no longer wears a crown, but he doesn’t need one. His mere presence is enough to chill the room and remind everyone that, for decades, he was the most powerful and ruthless man in the kingdom.
To his father’s right walks Bastian, the Crown Prince. He is dressed with the understated elegance befitting his position, and although he doesn’t utter a single word, his black eyes sweep across the hall before pausing on me for a brief moment.
A few steps behind them comes Alaric Victorius.
His black uniform, this time without insignia, looks as though it were tailored specifically for him, and every movement reflects the discipline of a warrior who has spent his entire life preparing to protect those he loves. His expression remains completely unreadable, yet the force of his presence fills the hall before he has even finished crossing the threshold. He walks with the confidence of a man who doesn’t need to prove his strength for everyone to know exactly who he is.
Anne rises to her feet immediately.
Her chest expands with a deep breath as Alaric’s scent reaches her. Hope lights up her eyes with almost painful speed, and a nervous smile threatens to form on her lips as her hands grip the back of the chair to steady the trembling running through her body. Her wolf has recognized him.
She believes that, at last, the Goddess has placed her destiny right before her eyes.
She has no idea that the man she’s looking at with such hope has already decided to reject her.
“Is it… you?” Anne murmurs the moment her eyes meet Alaric’s icy green ones. Surprise lights up her face for a fraction of a second, and she even takes a small step forward, unable to hide the hope that has suddenly awakened inside her.
Alaric, however, doesn’t even spare her a glance.
His eyes immediately shift to his twin sister, silently making sure she’s all right after mating with Thomas. Only then does he turn his attention to everyone else in the room, as though Anne simply doesn’t exist.
“Our apologies for being late to this… family gathering, but my mother has just informed us of these two women’s presence in our castle.”
Magnus walks over to one of the main armchairs and sits down with the effortless confidence and dignity of a king. Crossing one leg over the other, he rests an arm on the chair’s armrest.
