The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 13

Chapter 13

“Are you ready, my Luna?” Bastian asks.

“I’m ready.”

“I’m going to say goodbye to my father and grandfather. I won’t be long.”

The boy runs toward his family, grabs an old bag, and hurriedly returns to us.

“What do you mean by…?”

Bastian sighs and shakes his head.

“You need a friend so you won’t feel lonely in the castle, Celine. It’s a shame you didn’t have female friends.”

The low growl that leaves his chest makes me smile.

Not everything is so bad after all. And he’s right. Jared is a kind farmer, without malice, someone I can talk to about anything.

“Thank you, Bastian. That’s very sweet of you. But what is he going to do all day in the castle?”

His black eyes slowly turn golden. His voice changes too. Zack, his wolf, is the one speaking to me now.

“Take care of you when I’m not with you.” He takes my hand and gently pulls me back toward the vehicle. “I recognize a Beta when I see one, Celine. And that boy, besides caring about you, is very protective.”

Bastian opens the door for me and closes it once I climb in. Jared gets into the vehicle that will follow behind ours and, even from here, I can see the excitement on his face.

“You’re no longer afraid of another wolf getting close to me? Because half an hour ago you were furious because I asked

about one.”

I tense slightly in my seat when I realize I just made him angry again.

“No, I’m not afraid of a wolf getting close to you. That proves I’m not an idiot, Celine.” He growls while starting the engine, but he gives me a look that is difficult to interpret. “Jared is not attracted to you, and that is why he’s coming with us. He will train, be educated, and learn how to protect you. I need someone you trust to be your shadow while you are in the castle. Because if you think you’ll be completely safe within the walls of our home, you’re mistaken.”

Fear runs through me completely, making my skin prickle.

“You mean I won’t be safe?” My voice comes out shaky.

“What I mean is that I have many enemies, Celine. And when they learn that I found my Luna, they’ll want to attack me through you.” He grips the steering wheel tightly while the darkness of the road reflects in his eyes. “I trust no one but myself and, like I said before, I won’t always be able to stay by your side.”

Now I see everything more clearly and slowly nod while looking him in the eyes.

“I’ll do everything I can to give you peace of mind when you’re not at the castle.”

Bastian looks ahead and the vehicle begins to move away from the property that now belongs to Jasper Brown and his family.

“I know.” His voice comes out low and firm. “And I won’t allow anyone to hurt you either.”

The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

Bastian drove for twenty-two hours and only stopped to refuel and buy food he barely touched. I spent half the trip sleeping and the other half silently watching him.

We still have a little farther to go before reaching his kingdom.

The constant sound of the engine, the soft heat inside the vehicle, and the scent of leather mixed with Bastian’s woody cologne slowly wrapped around me in a strange sense of calm. Outside, the scenery changed for hours between forests; endless highways, and enormous cities filled with lights.

Bastian is, from what I can tell, a quiet man and, in his own way, attentive.

How can a wolf so terrifying to everyone else be gentle and rough with me at the same time? I suppose it’s our mate bond.

I watch him while he drives, relaxed and showing not the slightest sign of exhaustion. One firm hand on the steering wheel, the other resting near the window. His face remains calm and his dark gaze stays focused on the road illuminated by the highway lights.

We barely talk and, whenever he does speak, it’s to ask if I need something or if I’m hungry. He also covered me with his leather jacket when I fell asleep. It still holds some of his warmth and the intense cedar and mint scent that seems to belong entirely to him.

Details no one ever gave me before.

I can feel our bond a little stronger than before, but I still can’t truly connect with my wolf. She’s there, as if sleeping in some distant corner of my mind. She barely stirs from time to time, like a warm and silent presence that still doesn’t know how to come closer to me. I hope that now, far away from the pack, we can truly connect
