Chapter 148
i stare at the vial in my hands.
“Thank you, ma’am.”
Larissa simply nods before turning on her heel to rejoin the other women.
Tanner begins issuing orders to evacuate every house in the pack while Vladimir, his hands tucked into his pockets, suggest repeating what they did last time.
“Move the entire pack along with all the buildings again? Do you have any idea how much energy something like that takes?” his mother scolds without even looking at him.
Vladimir lets out an exasperated sigh.
“Now that you’re best friends with Morgana, ask her for help and bring your damn coven. It shouldn’t be that hard.”
I try to stay unnoticed, but apparently everyone has forgotten I’m still standing here watching this peculiar family argument.
Tanner and the others eventually walk over to where Vladimir and I are standing. Instinctively, I rest my hands on the hilts of Helel and Erebus. Both respond to my touch with a faint, familiar vibration that eases, if only a little, the tension that’s been building inside me for days.
“We’re ready,” the Alpha says, crossing his arms over his chest with complete confidence. “The elite force is ready too.”
“What force?”
I raise my head to look at him, and Tanner answers with a smile full of satisfaction.
I thought it would just be the eight of you.”
He tilts his head slightly, as though making a rough calculation.
“The eight of us… and about two thousand hybrids, give or take.”
I blink several times, convinced I misheard him.
My gaze moves from Tanner to Vladimir, Killian, Christian, Darien, and the rest.
None of them smiles.
None of them looks like they’re exaggerating.
He wasn’t joking.
Two thousand hybrids.
I swallow hard.
Johan only managed to tell me that Lemuria was in trouble because of my family, but I never imagined they would mobilize an army that size just to make sure I made it home safely.
They don’t even know me…
And yet they’re willing to cross into another world to protect me if things there are as serious as they fear.
Valeria walks over carrying her baby in her arms, a backpack slung over one shoulder. For a moment, my eyes widen.

convinced she’s coming with us too, but she stops in front of me with a warm smile
I brought you some gifts. For you… and your baby.”
I step a little closer and carefully take the tiny hand of the little boy resting in her arms. He looks so much like his father, Darien. In just over a month, I’ll be holding my own son the way she is now.
“You really didn’t have to. Thank you so much. He’s beautiful, Valeria. What did you name him?”
“Jasper. He’s named after…”
“…your adoptive father.” I smile at her, and one of her eyebrows lifts in obvious surprise. “It’s a beautiful name.”
“How do you know my adoptive father’s name?”
“The next time we meet, Valeria, Queen of the Vampires… we’ll have a long conversation, and you can ask me anything you
want.”
I wink at her before carefully hugging her so I don’t disturb the baby.
“Thank you for everything. Truly.”
Valeria nods silently and settles little Jasper back against her chest. He lets out a soft murmur while she strokes his back with slow, almost instinctive movements. Then I see her lift her eyes toward the three men standing nearby. The way she looks at them is enough to understand how much they mean to her.
“What’s it like having more than one mate?”
An amused smile spreads across her lips.
“Chaotic… but you’ll understand that when they come into your life. They have more love in them than you can imagine, and they won’t always agree with each other. That’s when it’ll be your turn to fight to keep the balance.”
“I think…”
I’m about to tell her about Johan.
“I know.” This time, she’s the one who winks at me before slipping the backpack onto my shoulder. “But that’s a conversation for another day. It’s time to go home. Take care of yourself, Celine…. and remember you’ll always be welcome here.
“I already have a home.”
Valeria smiles with the same quiet calm that seems to stay with her even in the hardest moments.
“Home isn’t a place, sweetheart. It’s the people you choose to keep in your life.”
Suddenly, I push everything out of my mind that doesn’t have to do with Bastian, my son, and the kingdom. Johan, Legion, and all the answers I’m still missing can wait.
Right now, the only thing that matters is getting home.
“You’re right.”
Valeria gives me one last smile and gestures for me to join the others.
I smile back before turning away.
Valeria Duval is the most remarkable woman I’ve ever met in my life.
