She continues walking until she stops beside the bed.

His breathing is weak and uneven. Every breath seems to demand a superhuman effort, as though his lungs no longer have the strength to keep working. Every trace of color has vanished from his skin, and the pallor of his face resembles that of a corpse more than that of a living man. Even the scent of death has begun to mingle with the incense and medicinal herbs filling the sanctuary, creating an aroma as strange as it is unsettling.

The bruises covering his face, the deep cuts running along his arms, and the wounds piercing his fingers speak of a prolonged and merciless torture. Even so, the brutality of his captors has failed to erase the beauty of his features. He doesn’t resemble Vladimir. His black hair lies in disarray across the pillow, his fine brows frame a face with elegant lines, and his lips, though dry and cracked, still possess an almost impossible symmetry. Yet there’s something about him that makes it impossible to see him as a gentle man. A darkness seems to have clung to his expression long before those wounds ever marked his body.

His eyelids slowly part with tremendous effort. His green eyes, identical to his mother’s, meet mine while the pain threatens to drag him back into unconsciousness.

I look up at Larissa and give her the slightest nod. No words are necessary. She understands immediately. Her lips tremble for only a moment before she nods in resignation. With a silent gesture, she gathers the priestesses and leaves the sanctuary with Karin. The massive doors close behind them with a deep sound that echoes throughout the chamber, cutting us off from the rest of the world.

Only the two of us remain.

I slowly sit on the edge of the bed. The mattress sinks beneath my weight as I hold his gaze.

“Is this what you want?”

Johan closes his eyes once before opening them again.

I nod to myself.

“I suppose that means yes.”

I remain silent for a few moments before speaking again, searching one last time for a reason to stop.

“You need to understand that your body may not survive this. The transformation may never be completed, and death could still claim you anyway.”

He closes his eyes again with what little control he still possesses. He accepts the risk without hesitation, as though death stopped frightening him a long time ago. I take a deep breath and close my own eyes for a

moment.

May the Goddesses forgive me for what I’m about to say.

“All right… but before I give you my blood, I need you to promise me one thing.”

His eyelids slowly lower once more, offering me one last affirmation. I watch him for several seconds. I never

“I’ll give you my blood, but the bond that will be born between us won’t be that of a mother and her son. You’ll learn from Karin. She’ll be the one to teach you everything you need to know about the nature you’re about to acquire. I can’t be the one to deal with you… not after what you did to Celine. Do you understand? I want you to promise me that you won’t spend your life chasing after me or my family. I don’t want you looking for me, hoping to find a mother, nor do I want you to ever feel abandoned by the woman who created you.”

Johan closes his eyes once more. The faint movement of his head is almost imperceptible, but it’s enough to tell me he accepts my conditions without resistance. I let out a long sigh as I lean closer to him.

There’s no turning back now.

“Close your eyes…. this is going to hurt.”

The taste of Johan’s blood still lingers in my mouth.

Two days have passed.

I’ve brushed my teeth over and over until my gums bled. I’ve drunk gallons of water, herbal tea, and anything else that might wash away that metallic taste from my tongue, yet it’s still there, as though it has embedded itself in my throat to remind me, every time I swallow, of what I did inside the sanctuary.

The good thing is that his body accepted my blood.

It didn’t reject it.

The transformation began immediately, and he survived the process.

He’s now staying at the pack house with Karin and her mates, learning everything he needs to know about his triple nature.

According to my mother-in-law, the adjustment has been remarkably stable. His magic remains the dominant nature, while the Dire Wolf and the vampire have integrated naturally, with neither one trying to overpower the other. And, as if that weren’t enough, he kept his promise.

I haven’t even seen Johan since that day.

He hasn’t come looking for me, hasn’t asked about me, and hasn’t tried to approach me even once. I haven’t gone to see him either after turning him. Maybe we both understood that keeping our distance was the only way to honor the agreement we made before my blood changed his destiny forever. Or maybe we simply both needed time to accept that our lives had become bound together by a connection neither of us ever wanted.

Although, to be honest, Johan is the least of my worries.

A weight has settled in my chest ever since I woke up. It’s heavy, uncomfortable, and far too familiar to ignore. My heart beats with an uneasiness I can’t explain, and every so often a chill runs down my spine, raising the hairs on my skin as though my instincts are trying to warn me of a danger I still can’t understand. I know this feeling. I’ve felt it before, always just before something terrible happened. No matter how hard I try to convince myself it’s only nerves, my body refuses to believe me.
