While my brother and Bastian try to kill each other, the two men standing in the middle of the chamber decide to step in.
Morthem and Zharzel enter alongside the two wolves who, just moments ago, carried the woman’s body away. The demon crosses the threshold with steady strides, but for the first time since I’ve known him, I watch the color drain from his face as he takes in the scene. He runs straight toward me, while Morthem shifts his attention to my brother and Celine’s mate, watching the fight with a calmness that is almost infuriating.
“You’re not going to do anything?” he asks without the slightest trace of concern.
“I don’t care. Let them kill each other. I need to stabilize Celine. She was poisoned with silver.”
Morthem keeps his eyes fixed on the young woman lying on the bed. The dark veins continue spreading around the wound with agonizing slowness.
“You know wolves poisoned with silver rarely survive, Vlad.”
Hearing Morthem remind me of what I already know doesn’t help at all.
“I need help getting her back to Avalon. Larissa and Morgana…”
“No!”
Bastian’s voice echoes through the entire room.
The Prince of Lemuria lifts my brother off the ground by the throat with one hand alone, holding him with brutal strength. Johan struggles to break free, his fingers clawing at the wrist crushing his windpipe.
“If you kill my brother, there will be consequences.”
“Brother? What did they do to my wife?”
Bastian suddenly lets him go. Johan crashes onto the stone floor, coughing violently as he struggles to fill his lungs with air.
I know that if Bastian had wanted to, he would have killed him. My brother never fought back or tried to return a single blow. He simply endured every attack without resisting, as though he believed he deserved them. Maybe because he kept Bastian unconscious for so long. Maybe because of Celine’s pregnancy. The truth is, I don’t know.
The only thing I know for certain is that something has changed in my brother.
The fangs protruding beneath his upper lip are proof enough.
Bastian stops paying attention to him and drops to his knees beside the bed. His hands tremble as he cups Celine’s face.

There is no trace left of the man who woke up ready to tear apart anyone who stood in his way. All of that violence vanishes the instant he looks at the woman he loves lying before him, covered in blood, her belly already too far along to hide the life growing inside her.
I place a hand on the prince’s shoulder. He looks up at me, and in his eyes I find something I never imagined I would see.
A plea.
“She was wounded with a silver dagger, and her blood has been poisoned. There is no cure, but there are still two ways to save her. One is to turn her into a hybrid, but she has to accept it of her own free will… and she’s unconscious. The other is to take her to Avalon. The witches and the priestesses might be able to stabilize her.”
Silence settles over the room.
No one says a word.
Johan walks over until he’s standing on the opposite side of the bed, studying me with narrowed eyes. Bastian’s father helps him to his feet, gripping him by the arm.
“Do the only sensible thing, son. Save your mate’s life. Save your son’s life.”
Bastian nods without taking his eyes off Celine, but it’s Johan who finally breaks the silence. He steps toward the bed, and his expression changes instantly the moment he notices the young woman’s swollen belly.
He takes a small step back.
“Shit… this can’t be…” We all turn to look at him. “The baby… is coming.”
Several explosions erupt outside, one after another, rattling the windowpanes and shaking the castle walls. Every one of us looks up instinctively. Bastian turns toward the window with a deep frown, while Alaric and Thomas exchange an alarmed glance, and Jared’s hand goes to the weapon hanging at his waist.
“What the hell?”
Zharzel raises an eyebrow without taking his eyes off Celine.
“We can’t take her to Avalon like this. Johan and I will go get the witches and bring them here. They don’t know how to get here. This place is nothing more than a myth to those who live outside Lemuria.”
Bastian remains frozen, torn between the chaos inside the room and the battle that has just erupted beyond the castle walls. The place he has always called home is crumbling before his eyes. His castle trembles beneath the thunder of explosions while a thick black cloud begins to swallow the sky, as though the kingdom itself were reacting to the suffering of his mate and the pup she carries.
Morthem remains beside the bed, watching Celine’s breathing without missing a single detail, while King Magnus stands in silence with his fists clenched. No one dares leave the room. They are all waiting for an order.
