The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

“Here. It says it clearly.”

Bastian takes the book in his hands. His fingers run over the cover before he opens it, and when he does, he finds dozens of folded pages, some loose and others tucked between the pages. He recognizes Celine’s handwriting immediately. It’s fine, neat, and careful, but there is nothing calm about the notes. There are questions, dates, observations, and words marked with such force that some of them have nearly dug into the paper beneath the ink.

He turns one page. Then another.

Each line seems to show him a piece of a life he wasn’t there to witness.

Until he reaches a page he doesn’t want to read.

His eyes stop on the first note.

“Terrible wolves can only reject each other if they are pure wolves of the same breed.”

Bastian remains motionless. His fingers tighten around the book, and the paper crinkles beneath his grip.

He continues.

“Female terrible wolves can have more than one mate if they have demon blood.”

His breathing changes.

For the first time, Johan’s words stop sounding insane and begin to take on a meaning he doesn’t want to

accept.

He lowers his gaze to the final note.

“These bonds cannot be severed. If they remain apart, the suffering of the female wolf can kill her.”

to him. He knows Bastian and what Celine means to him. He also knows that, after waking up from more than a year of unconsciousness and discovering that his mate disappeared right in front of him, accepting the existence of other bonds will probably be one of the last things he manages to do calmly.

“Are you three mates to a terrible wolf?” Silas asks, and the look of pure surprise on his face makes it clear that this isn’t the answer he expected to hear. “Is she in the human world?”

The three men nod.

“Our mate was born in the human world, but she is now with our children, safe in Avalon. Dark times are coming for us.”

Silas studies them carefully. His eyes move over the three men before stopping for a moment on the army standing behind them. He doesn’t seem comfortable with so many strangers inside Lemuria, but the information he has just received piques his curiosity.

“I heard you had a battle with strigois some time ago.”

Darien lowers his gaze for a moment before looking toward Chris and Ciro. The expressions on all three men’s faces change as they remember what happened.

“Yes, and now we have to prepare for an invasion of creatures created in a laboratory. We came here to make sure Celine arrived home safely. We never imagined that after doing so, she would end up injured inside the very walls of her own home. What happened is terrible,” Ciro replies.

Alaric listens in silence. He has never been a wolf who trusts strangers, much less when those strangers are vampires, fairies, demons, warlocks, and an army of hybrids. His eyes sweep over the soldiers occupying most of the hall once again. There are too many of them, they are too powerful, and they made it all the way to Lemuria without anyone being able to stop them.

“Why did you bring an army?”

“We knew from one of the warlocks that this place was no longer the same. He said an opposition had risen, and with it, a war. We only came to help the future queen and her kingdom, if you would allow us to. We are ready, sir. You only have to give the order.”

Silas growls and nods.

“Yes, it’s true. That scum Darius and his son went from pack to pack searching for our enemies. They brought them here more than a year ago, when Celine disappeared. Since then, we’ve been fighting an endless war. Many died. Others only managed to escape to the human world.”

The memory hardens Alaric’s expression.

“They did it because they knew the fiercest of our men wasn’t here to exterminate them. Bastian isn’t just a prince. He’s the best warrior in the kingdom, and…”

“Who are you?”
