Chapter 25
Bastian says two words and they take us to his private waiting area, where it does not even take five minutes for them to come for me. The doctor who treated me at the castle arrives accompanied by three nurses and guides us into a large room. completely white and far too bright.
The strong scent of disinfectant invades me the moment I walk in and the cold air of the place sends chills across my skin. beneath my coat.
“Luna, you may remove your clothes and put on the gown. The nurses will help you.” He says before turning around and leaving together with Bastian. “I’ll be back shortly.”
The three nurses are very beautiful and gentle women. All of them bow politely before I begin removing my clothes.
“I can do it myself, thank you.” I give them a small smile, but search for an angle where, once I am undressed, they will not be able to see my back.
My fingers move quickly while unfastening my clothes as discomfort slowly rises in my chest. The mere thought of someone else seeing my scars makes my stomach tighten.
I put on the hospital gown and sit on the high examination table while waiting for the doctor to return. The white paper beneath my legs crinkles every time I move and I end up resting my hands on my lap to stop nervously fidgeting with the fabric.
Meanwhile, they draw a blood sample and send me to the bathroom with a small sterile container.
Once both samples are ready, the doctor enters followed by my mate, who looks gloomier than ever. He is holding a wheelchair and my coat in his hands.
His eyes quickly scan my face before briefly lowering toward my bare arms and hardening again.
Bastian is not lying when he says we will probably spend the entire day at the hospital. They run an endless number of tests and finally, after the nutritionist examines me and prescribes supplements and a strict diet, I enter the office of the skin specialist.
“Good afternoon, Luna Celine.” This time I enter the office alone and, because she is a she-wolf, I feel more comfortable. “Please sit down, I’m going to examine you. Are you cold? You may remove the gown.”
She quickly adjusts the temperature and the soft sound of the heating filling the silence helps me relax a little.
“Thank you.” I say after removing the garment. “Look, doctor, I don’t have any problem with these scars, but the prince wants me to begin treatment as soon as possible. He says you are the best and that you can help me.”
I stand facing her and she slightly frowns when she sees nothing unusual.
My heart slowly tightens inside my chest when I turn around to show her my back.
For a long moment, the office remains silent.
I can only hear our breathing, the soft hum of the white lights above our heads, and the mulled footsteps on the other side of the door.
For several minutes I remain staring at my bare feet lightly swinging over the edge of the examination table while I feel the doctor slowly approaching.
“Excuse me, Luna.” When I hear her voice, I turn my head to look at her and the air catches in my lungs. “I’m going to touch you, if you don’t mind.”

I do not let her.
i quickly turn around and put the gown back on before taking her hand.
The woman tenses and lowers her head.
The doctor’s face is soaked with tears and her eyes are completely red from irritation.
“I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable. I truly am.”
The doctor gently shakes her head and squeezes my hand between hers.
“It does not make me uncomfortable, it’s just… whoever did this to you, I hope the prince makes them pay.” She says with a trembling voice. “I’m going to treat you and I promise favorable results, but it will take time.”
I smile at her and nod, trying to reassure her.
I do not know how to feel about this. No one besides Bastian and the doctor who examined me earlier reacts this way to my
scars.
“Are you sure..? What is your name?”
The doctor quickly composes herself, wipes her face with a handkerchief, and smiles back at me.
“Easy now, don’t be embarrassed.” I tell her while walking toward the door to ask Bastian for my clothes.
The doctor tucks her hair behind her ear, still trying to compose herself, before handing me a small cream-colored medical card with gold lettering engraved across the surface.
“My name is Margot Valcrest. You met my husband this morning, Doctor Lucien Valcrest.”
The door opens almost immediately, as if Bastian is standing outside counting every second.
He extends a bag with my things and quickly glances around the office before stopping his eyes on me. The tension in his jaw cases a little after confirming that I am alright.
I make room for him to step inside because I notice how anxious he is. His eyes quickly move over the doctor, then me, and finally the gown I adjust over my body once more.
“Margot, it’s been a while.” The prince greets the doctor with a kiss on the cheek and she returns it with a much more relaxed smile than before. “How are the pups?”
The shift in the atmosphere is immediate. The emotional tension cases slightly and the doctor even lets out a small tired laugh while sitting back down behind the desk.
“Hungry, destructive, and far too much like their father.” She replies while organizing several test results and beginning to write notes across a thick folder. “So perfectly healthy.”
