Chapter 26

After I finish getting dressed, the doctor invites me to take a seat in front of her desk and Bastian does the same beside me

The office feels much warmer now. The soft scent of freshly brewed coffee and dried flowers slightly replaces the smell of medication and disinfectant that saturates the entire hospital.

Margot offers us a cup of coffee that I gladly accept because my stomach has been asking for something warm for a while The heat of the porcelain between my hands helps relax my tense fingers a little.

She keeps talking with Bastian while she starts typing on her computer and a nurse softly knocks on the door before entering with all the tests they ran on me stacked in her arms.

The she-wolf keeps her gaze lowered while approaching the desk. Her movements are quick and careful, as if she fears interrupting something important.

She leaves the folders in front of the doctor and lowers her head again.

“Thank you.” Margot gives her a kind smile and the nurse leaves in silence, closing the door behind hér.

The sound of the click echoes too loudly inside the office.

“Well, Luna Celine, the doctors who saw you today will be here in a moment to speak about your physical condition.” Doctor Margot says while arranging the test results.

An uncomfortable knot forms in my throat and I tighten my grip on the cup, feeling the warmth slowly spread through my

hands.

I feel strange.

No one had ever run a single test on me in my entire life and today they did more than I can remember. My arms are still sensitive from the needles and my body feels exhausted from so many examinations.

“It’s okay.” I say in a very quiet voice.

Bastian takes the other hand I have free and slowly runs his thumb across the back of it. His warm aura wraps around me almost immediately and the pressure in my chest eases a little.

I lift my gaze to him for a second and his dark eyes remain completely focused on me, as if he is trying to anticipate anything that could upset me.

“I would like to speak with someone about my wolf. Is there a doctor who can help me awaken her?”

The doctor smiles at me more gently this time and reaches for a dark folder.

“My husband will speak to you about that in a moment.”

There’s a knock at the door and, without waiting for Doctor Margot to say anything, Doctor Lucien walks in accompanied by other doctors.

All of them look tired. Some have wrinkled coats and visible dark circles under their eyes, but none of them lose the warmth they showed me since earlier today.

Lucien holds several medical scans against his chest and the others carry thick folders while slowly taking seats around the desk.

The atmosphere changes immediately.

It no longer feels like just a medical consultation, it feels like an important meeting.

“Well, Luna Celine, we have the results of your tests and all of us want to reassure you. There is nothing truly concerning Lucien, Margot’s husband, begins to say while arranging several papers in front of him. “Your results, within clinical parameters, came back normal, but you have chronic anemia.”

Lucien looks at the nutritionist, who slowly opens his folder and starts explaining a lot of things that I honestly do not understand, although apparently Bastian does. His eyes move carefully over the reports while the doctor talks about percentages, supplements, and physical recovery.

I only manage to catch a few scattered phrases.

“Signs of malnutrition.”

“Muscle development intentionally interrupted.”

“Luna Celine was never able to develop properly because her body was too busy trying to heal.”

Bastian’s silence starts feeling heavier with every word.

None of them say anything about my wolf.

All the doctors speak slowly and wait their turns to explain things to me, but I end up staring at my hands wrapped around the now lukewarm cup of coffee.

“What about my wolf?” I finally ask, lifting my gaze. “I can feel her. In fact, I have shifted a few times, but then long periods pass before I can do it again and… it was always when I was in danger or simply had to run away.”

My question does not surprise them.

Lucien exchanges a quick glance with Margot before dismissing the other doctors, who slowly rise from their seats. Some lower their heads toward us and others shake Bastian’s hand before leaving the office in silence.

“Prince, could you wait outside for a moment so I can speak with Celine about…?”

“I’m not going anywhere, so just say it already.” Bastian cuts him off with his now familiar golden eyes. “Whatever you have to tell her, I’m going to know afterward anyway.”

1 refrain from rolling my eyes.

The doctor turns slightly pale from Zack’s reaction, but he sits back down again, nervously adjusting his glasses.

“We noticed in your blood tests that you are…”

Bastian growls low and the doctor clears his throat before pulling several papers from a dark folder.
