The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 31

Chapter 31

King Magnus remains standing in the middle of the training area with his hands behind his back. He wears a simple black shirt rolled up to his forearms and dark pants, but even dressed like that he still carries that absurd presence that immediately makes it clear why he is the king. His slightly messy dark hair and the calm expression on his face make it obvious that he has been waiting for me here for a while.

“I assumed you would be here, Bastian.” His deep voice softly echoes between the empty walls. “After last night I was sure tonight would not be any different.”

I let out a tired exhale while closing the door behind me.

Of course he knows.

At this point the entire castle can probably smell my frustration.

Magnus takes a longsword resting against one of the columns and throws it toward me. The steel spins through the air reflecting the faint bluish light before I catch it on instinct.

“Do you feel like getting your ass kicked, father?”

“No.” He answers calmly while taking another sword for himself. “I want damned grandchildren who look like you to fill me with joy, but instead you prefer to waste all that energy training like an idiot instead of marking your luna.”

I roll my eyes and spin the sword skillfully in my hand, feeling the familiar weight of the weapon settle perfectly into my grip.

“You will have them. Just not now. My girl is still not ready.”

Magnus lets out a nasal laugh and slowly begins circling around me.

“My ass she is not ready.” He growls. “She will be once you mark her and help her wolf awaken. She needs her male, but you keep running from her like a frightened pup.”

Without giving me time to respond, he lunges at me.

The metallic clash of our swords breaks the silence of the hall and the impact forces me to brace my feet more firmly against the stone floor. Magnus is still absurdly fast for someone who has not picked up a sword in a long time and the strength behind every strike makes it clear he did not come here just to talk.

It had been years since we trained together.

And honestly… I suppose it is going to be a long night.

Because I have many things to tell him about our future queen. Things he still does not know and that he definitely is not going to like once he discovers exactly how Alpha Darius Miller’s daughter lived.

The thought makes Zack growl inside me again.

Yes.

I am definitely going to need my father in a good mood before I tell him all that.

It is always useful to have him as an ally when I plan to spill blood without hesitation.

Magnus attacks me again and this time I manage to knock his sword aside before spinning on myself to force him to take a step back. The old bastard immediately smiles, clearly entertained.

“Come on, old man! Is that all you have?” I mock while the sound of our swords once again fills the enormous training hall

And honestly… it has been a long time since I last saw my father smile like that.

The entire world believes Magnus is an impeccable king and they have no idea how wrong they are. Magnus Thorn is just like me or worse, only he knows when to stop, unlike me, who cannot find peace until my enemies end up headless or dismembered.

He is an excellent liar. Behind that mask of indifference or false kindness, what truly hides is nothing more than an animal that hell itself spat out so it would not end up destroyed by him.

My father taught me absolutely everything I know. He was the one who drilled into my head that to rule, fear is necessary and that a king incapable of making his enemies tremble ends up dead sooner or later. When he decided to leave the kingdom’s battles behind to focus on politics, treaties, and boring dinners with the court, I had to take his place.

And I did.

The rumor of Bastian Thorn, the ruthless prince, spread throughout the continent thanks to him. Not by inventing stories or spreading empty rumors, but because of everything I did and that my father publicized as if it were insignificant. He was always the good king, the reasonable and just man, while I became the beast he used to terrify the continent. Because of how I wiped out entire packs, executed corrupt Alphas in front of their own warriors, and destroyed enemies foolish enough to underestimate the young inexperienced prince.
