The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon

Chapter 32

Magnus lowers his gaze for a few seconds and for the first time since I walked in here, he actually seems tired

“I am not sure, son.”

“That is unfortunate.” I drive the sword into the stone floor before stepping closer until I am standing right in front of him.” “Because if you do not, I will not give you grandchildren. I will not have time if I have to go to another war and come back every night to impregnate my luna.”

“You fucking bastard.”

The laugh he lets out afterward echoes through the entire hall.

“You taught me that too, father.” I say while placing both swords back in their place before turning to face him directly. “am your damned reflection.”

And judging by the way Magnus smiles after hearing me, I know perfectly well that it does not bother him at all. It only makes him prouder.

“Good, son. They say the apple does not fall far from the tree, so I will not be offended by hearing it that way. Now go shower because you stink and go sleep beside that beautiful young lady you have as a mate.”

Magnus leaves, leaving me agitated and with too many things circling through my head. I turn to watch him walk away and, as always, he moves slowly, as if time held absolutely no control over him and the rest of the world had to adapt to his pace instead.

In human years he appears barely over forty. He is three hundred and sixty-eight and does not have a single gray hair. His broad shoulders remain straight, his waist narrow, and his muscles still easily visible beneath the dark clothing despite haying officially abandoned the battlefield years ago. He has not lost his attractiveness with time, just like my grandfather. The Thorns age slowly and in an irritatingly elegant way.

And honestly, that explains far too many things about why the she-wolves at court completely lose their damned minds every time my father enters a room.

I push the mental image of my grandfather away before it manages to ruin my mood even more.

That man is a damned headache.

Worse than my father.

Worse than me.

Silas Thorn lives like a hermit somewhere deep in a lost forest far from any contact with the kingdom and honestly I thank the Moon Goddess every day that he remains there. Because if Magnus still preserves some patience and diplomacy, my grandfather was directly born without either of them.

The last time he appeared at court he almost ripped an Alpha’s head off during a political discussion and afterward continued drinking whiskey as if nothing had happened.

Thank the Moon Goddess for keeping that madman far away from civilization.

I turn off the lights and walk behind my father. The sound of our footsteps softly echoes through the empty hallways of the castle until, just when I think I am about to catch up with him. Magnus turns down the main corridor to take the stairs leading to the third floor.

My steps stop on their own.

I silently watch him slowly climb the staircase wrapped in darkness, gradually disappearing toward that place no one else has entered for a hundred years. And although he never talks about it. I know perfectly well what is up there. The chamber where he lived with my mother. The same room he returns to every night as if he still expects to find her there.

My chest tightens painfully.

Because I understand too well what it means.

I take a deep breath and shift my gaze toward the chamber door I have occupied since yesterday to try to sleep, but after watching my father climb alone once again toward the third floor… I end up turning on my heel and heading toward my

own room.

Where Celine is surely already asleep.

Alone.

Without me.

Tonight is colder than any other. The guards remain at their posts in front of my chamber doors and immediately straighten their backs when they see me approach.

“You may go rest. I will protect her tonight.” I order while they look at each other as if they heard wrong.

“Thank you, Your Highness.” One of them responds and, without wasting a second, turns on his heel and practically flees down the hallway.

I frown and feel Zack trying to take control again.

“Leave.” He growls at the others who still remain frozen in front of me.

The other two react immediately, nod quickly, and disappear just like the first one. A smile ends up curving my lips while I slowly shake my head.

Cowards.

I open the door and find her asleep in the middle of the enormous bed, curled into a tiny ball beneath the blankets. The lights are still on and the fireplace is close to dying out. The warmth in the room has already begun to fade, so I walk over first to stir the embers and add enough firewood until the flames slowly rise again, illuminating the dark walls of the chamber once more.

Celine does not even move.

The soft sound of her breathing fills the silence while she sleeps deeply and for a moment I remain there watching her. feeling that strange pressure in my chest that appears every time I see her calm and safe inside this castle.

My castle.

Our room. It still sounds strange inside my head.

I enter the bathroom to take a shower and, for the first time in a very long time, I discover myself nervous over something as ridiculous as sleeping beside a woman. The hot water helps clear my head a little, although not enough. My heart still pounds hard when I remember what happened earlier in the hallway and the way the bond reacted between us.

Zack is completely excited about sleeping beside our mate and, after warning him several times that I do not plan on losing control tonight and after he practically swore to behave, I end up putting on an old black shirt and pajama pants.

I dry my hair slowly and when I return to the room I remain standing beside the bed like a complete idiot for several minutes without daring to lie down beside her.
