The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

46

That night, he had just arrived at the Alpha residence and taken refuge in the office to review a new mountain of paperwork that needed to be signed urgently. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the room when Beta Christian, Celine and Cassius’s uncle, entered carrying a cup of black coffee in one hand and two telegrams in the other.

The first one is for you, he informed him while setting the cup down on the desk. “Both came from the kingdom.”

Tanner set his pen aside and reached out to take the envelope. The royal seal stamped on it was enough to make him frowry He broke the seal, unfolded the paper, and began reading.

His expression turned strange almost immediately as he read the few lines written by the prince. He read them a second time and then a third, as if expecting the words to rearrange themselves or take on a different meaning. They did not.

Finally, he let out a dry laugh through his nose before tossing the telegram across the desk toward Christian.

“Read it.”

Christian raised an eyebrow, picked up the paper, and read the few words written by the prince.

“Release and banish the Miller family from the pack.”

The Beta remained silent for several seconds.

“Well…” he finally murmured. “I suppose the prince has already decided what to do with them.”

Tanner leaned back against the chair and crossed his arms over his chest.

“No trial. No warning. No second chance. Just banish them.”

“Does that surprise you?”

“Yes.” He exhaled while looking at the ceiling. “Honestly, I’m surprised they weren’t imprisoned for life.”

Because they both knew perfectly well that things could have ended much worse.

Beta Christian tore open the envelope and read the contents of the telegram. As his eyes moved across the lines written by the Royal Crown, one eyebrow slowly rose. Silence settled over the office for a few seconds and, just as Tanner had done moments earlier, he ended up tossing the paper onto the desk for him to read himself.

“Effective as of today’s date, Beta Christian Caldwell is appointed by the Royal Crown as the new Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack. Your immediate presence is required in the throne room.”

For several seconds neither of them said a word.

The telegrams remained open on the dark wooden surface of the desk, One expelled the Miller family from the pack. The other appointed a new Alpha. Two sheets of paper had been enough to change the fate of an entire territory.

Tanner stared at both documents, let out a long sigh, and rose to his feet, pushing the chair back with a soft creak.

“Then my presence is no longer necessary here.” He ran a hand over the back of his neck while looking at Christian. “I’ll accompany you to the kingdom. There’s something I want to say to the prince.”

Christian let out a dry laugh and shook his head.

“Don’t lie to me, Tanner. What you want is to see my niece.”

The Alpha looked away toward one of the windows covered by rain.

“Accept it already. You rejected her, and now she is the prince’s fated mate. If you truly value your life. stay away from her

The words hit exactly where they were meant to.

Tanner didn’t respond.

Because he couldn’t,

Because Christian was right.

The new Alpha also rose to his feet and began adjusting his jacket while processing the weight of the responsibility that had just fallen onto his shoulders.

“Who will be your Beta?” Tanner asked, steering the conversation toward much safer ground. “That Gamina kid, the one in the hospital, isn’t a Gamma. He’s a Beta.”

Christian nodded slowly.

“Thomas isn’t a Gamma, but he fights like one. He’s the best man I have, the most loyal and the most reliable, but he’s still young. I’m not sure he’s ready for such a great responsibility.”

“Do you have another option?”

Christian finished buttoning his jacket and shook his head.

“The truth is, I don’t. Prince Bastian tore my successor to pieces.”

Tanner frowned.

“What?”

He was useless. One of the warriors who dared to participate in the attack against Celine the same night she left this pack.”

Tanner’s expression changed immediately.

“What are you talking about?”

He truly didn’t know. That night had been chaos.

The only thing he remembered clearly was seeing Bastian walk into that very office demanding answers. He remembered the fury in his voice, the suffocating pressure of his aura, and the way he had demanded to know where Celine was. Hours later, he had seen him return carrying her unconscious in his arms, shielding her with his own body as though she were a treasure he was willing to protect at any cost.

He had never known what had happened between those two moments.

Until now.

Christian clenched his jaw tightly. The muscles in his face tensed, and a dark shadow crossed his eyes.

“Cassius and Anne had ordered several warriors to follow her. My future Beta was among them.”

Tanner felt a bad feeling settle in his stomach.

“For what?”

Christian looked away for a moment. He seemed torn between remaining silent and telling the truth.

In the end, he chose the truth.

To humiliate her in the worst possible way.”

The air seemed to disappear from the office.

“What?”

“And then murder her when they were finished with her.”

Christian’s voice echoed against the walls like a sharp blow.

Tanner went pale.

His heart began pounding hard inside his chest as he tried to process what he had just heard. For an instant, he saw Celine again in his memory. He remembered her walking alone through the pack grounds. He remembered het standing outside Darius Miller’s office. He remembered her accepting the rejection with a dignity that still haunted him every time he closed his eyes.
