Chapter 53
Thomas first thinks carefully about how to give the answer his Alpha needs to hear.
I’m going to the kingdom, and I’ll be the head of security for our future queen, Alpha Christian.”
The news hits Christian like a direct punch to the chest.
For several seconds, he remains completely motionless.
Then he nods.
And against all expectations, a sense of relief begins to spread through his body.
Thomas is the best warrior he has ever known in his entire life. He has seen what he is capable of in combat, knows his discipline, his observational skills, and the almost obsessive way he fulfills every responsibility assigned to him. Knowing that he is leaving the pack to protect Celine not only fills him with pride, it also gives him a peace of mind he never expected to feel.
She will be safe.
With Thomas watching over her, very few people would be capable of getting close enough to harm her.
“Then I can give you a ride if you’d like. The prince has summoned me this afternoon. It’s a long drive, and we could keep each other company.”
“I appreciate the offer, but if you don’t mind, I’d rather travel in my own vehicle.”
Christian shakes his head and cannot help feeling slightly surprised. In less than half an hour, Thomas has refused to become Beta, refused to remain in the pack, and now he is refusing to travel with him as well.
“Of course I don’t mind. Are you taking your motorcycle?”
The young man nods before stepping away from the counter and walking toward the entrance. Christian follows as they cross the living room.
“Well then, I’m leaving.”
The Alpha extends his hand, and Thomas accepts it. The handshake is firm, respectful, and brief.
“Good luck, Thomas. And take good care of my niece.”
For the first time since the conversation began, something resembling surprise crosses the warrior’s face.
Thomas studies the Alpha for a few seconds while processing those words.
His niece.
He had no idea that the quiet and kind young woman who had endured years of abuse inside the pack house was related to Christian.
Several responses immediately come to mind.
None of them particularly kind.
But he keeps them to himself.
He simply nods and watches the Alpha leave the house before closing the door behind him.

The silence returns almost immediately.
Thomas remains standing motionless in the middle of the living room for several seconds before walking over to the coat rack. He puts on his old leather jacket, checks that his documents are still inside the inner pocket, and then slings a backpack over one shoulder containing little more than the essentials.
He does not need much.
He made the decision to leave weeks ago.
He walks to the key holder by the entrance, takes the house keys and the keys to his motorcycle, then gives the interior one final look.
His gaze travels over the fireplace, the table, the photographs, and the walls that had been part of his life for so long. Everything remains exactly the same, yet it no longer feels like home.
He turns off the lights one by one without dwelling too much on the memories.
The house belonged to his family.
Then it belonged to him.
Now it is just another property he intends to sell.
When he steps outside, the cold night air strikes his face. Moisture clings to his skin as he walks down the porch steps and approaches his motorcycle. The dark paint reflects the lights from the house, and the metal still carries traces of the rain that had fallen earlier that afternoon.
He puts on his helmet, adjusts the strap securely beneath his chin, and zips his jacket all the way to the neck.
He has nothing left in that pack that makes him want to stay.
His job is waiting for him in the kingdom.
And so is the girl who reminds him far too much of his twin sister.
The engine of his Aprilia RS 660 roars the moment he turns the key. The familiar vibration travels up his legs as the machine comes to life beneath him. A journey that would take nearly twenty-four hours by car can be completed in less than ten on that motorcycle.
Thomas casts one final glance at the For Sale sign planted beside the road.
Then he lowers the visor of his helmet and accelerates hard with no intention of ever returning.
When Thomas first met Celine, he did not know she was the Alpha’s daughter, nor that she was related to the man who was then Beta Christian Caldwell. The only thing he knew was that he had been ordered to accompany and protect a young woman whose home had just been burned down.
That night, he expected to find someone frightened, resentful, or even hostile after everything that had happened.
Instead, he found a kind young woman who, despite her own misfortune, seemed more concerned about others than herself.
From the very beginning, Celine was gentle and considerate. She tried several times to start a conversation with him, offered him food, insisted that he shelter himself from the cold, and gave him shy smiles that seemed out of place in a situation as miserable as that one.
Thomas barely responded.
The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon
He simply carried out the order he had been given and remained alert throughout the night, watching the surroundings while she tried to cope with the loss of everything she owned.
Yet every gesture from the young woman inevitably reminded him of his twin sister.
Not long afterward, a group of warriors attacked them.
