Steam wraps around the shower in a thick haze. Hot water strikes our bodies and shdes down our skin in small shimmering
rivers
Suddenly, control returns to me. Now they are my hands holding her, my arms keeping her close, and my lips finding hers beneath the hot water still falling over us. Steam swirls between us while Celine’s wolf stops kissing me and lifts her gaze to look directly into my eyes.
Celine’s wolf stops kissing me and looks up at me. A soft smile curves her lips while that strange golden and blue glow dances in her pupils like reflections of fire beneath the water.
“We need you, Bastian,” she says with a gentleness that contrasts with the intensity of her gaze.
A moment later, something changes.
I feel it.
“We’re ready for you.”
The presence of her wolf slowly retreats, and it is Celine who takes control of herself once again.
Then she hugs me.
Her body presses against mine, and her face disappears against my chest. Her wet hair falls over my arms and torso in heavy strands while the water continues to run over us.
“I’m sorry,” she says, her voice breaking. “I don’t understand how that happened.”
I immediately wrap my arms around her, pulling her even closer. The pressure of her body against mine feels strangely comforting while the hot water continues to pour down our backs.
“It’s okay, I understand. Are you okay?” I ask the stupidest question I have ever spoken in my life. “Did you meet your wolf?”
She nods against my chest, though she doesn’t answer right away.
She remains there, holding me tightly beneath the water as if she is still trying to understand everything that just happened.
Several seconds pass before she slowly loosens her grip. Then she lifts her head to look at me.
Drops of water slide down her eyelashes and trail along her cheeks while her eyes remain fixed on mine.
“Don’t be angry with Zack. I’m not.”
Celine’s gaze, which had been intense only a second ago, dims. She moves away from me as though contact with my skin burns her.
Zack growls inside my mind at the same moment I watch our mate step back with sadness in her eyes. Celine moves to slide the glass door open, but I don’t let her. I take her hand before she can escape and wrap my arm around her waist again. pulling her against me beneath the hot water.
“Do you love me, Celine?”
Celine.
The human body tends to react in unexpected ways when emotions overwhelm us, and that is something I discovered only

a few minutes ago. Because my body is not only human. There is an animal nature living inside me, a warm and wild presence that had remained asleep until today.
My wolf has awakened. I didn’t just hear her, I felt her. I felt her emotions blending with mine, her impulses colliding with my thoughts, and her desires spreading through my body like a current impossible to ignore.
The moment Zack stepped through the glass partition, everything changed. Everything I feel for Bastian multiplied until it became almost overwhelming. His wolf recognized his mate, and Astra did not have the slightest consideration when I tried to ask her to stop. She simply ignored me, and the worst part is that I understand why.
Bastian had drawn a line he was not yet ready to cross. I know that because I have watched him fight himself over and over again since I arrived at this castle. I have seen him restrain himself when it would have been easier to surrender to his instincts. I have seen him walk away when he clearly did not want to.
That is why the question he just asked catches me completely off guard.
He just asked me if I love him.
And it is not a sexual question.
My eyes remain fixed on his while the water continues to fall over us. Droplets slide through his dark hair, trace the scar that cuts across one of his eyebrows, and slowly travel down his neck. His arms are still wrapped firmly around me, as if he fears I might pull away again, but all of his attention is focused on me. His dark gaze remains locked on mine, waiting for an answer with a patience I suddenly understand much better.
Because suddenly I understand.
I understand why he keeps holding himself back, why he has never used the mate bond to draw closer to me, and why even now, after everything that just happened, he is still waiting for an answer.
Bastian does not want to know whether I desire him. He already knows that.
He wants to know whether I truly love him. Whether my feelings for him go beyond that.
Whether, when we strip away the wolves, the mate bond, the attraction, and all the instincts pulling us toward each other, there is still something left.
Whether I still choose him when I am simply Celine.
And the simple realization that he has waited all this time to ask me something so important makes something inside my chest tighten painfully.
I lift my gaze to him, and then I truly see him.
Not the prince. Not the man everyone respects and fears.
I see Bastian.
Water slides through his dark, wet hair, pressing a few strands against his forehead while tiny droplets cling to the scar crossing one of his eyebrows. His broad shoulders block part of the bathroom light, and his arms remain firmly wrapped around my waist as though he has no intention of letting me escape again.
Yet there is no demand in his posture.
No pressure.
Only patience.
His eyes remain fixed on mine with an intensity that makes it difficult to breathe. They do not look like the eyes of a man
