The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon (Celine and Bastian) novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7

For a long moment, I remain silent, staring at my coffee as if it were the most interesting thing in the world or as if the scrambled eggs on my plate looked fluffier than they should.

“I had breakfast prepared for you so you could eat it, Celine. Not so you could sit there staring at it. If you don’t eat, it’s going to get cold and you won’t like it anymore.”

I lift my gaze slightly, expecting to see a smile on his face after those words, but no. There’s nothing. He has the same expressionless look and his eyes fixed on me.

“Aren’t you going to eat anything?” I ask when I notice the extra cup on my tray. “There are two cups of coffee here and enough food for both of us.”

He narrows his eyes slightly, this time with a hint of warmth.

“Can I eat with you? If I get closer, you won’t use that knife to stab me in the eye?”

I feel like laughing.

“I don’t live alone.” He replies, and the air catches in my throat. “When I’m at the castle, I live with my father, and I don’t think he would like the idea of you sleeping in a separate room. He’s a man with old-fashioned ideas. He wants grandchildren soon.”

I feel the heat rise from my neck to my ears. I nod, embarrassed. It can’t be that terrible to sleep in the same room as him. He said he would wait until I felt ready.

“I can sleep on the couch or on the floor if that’s what worries you.”

I smile at him sincerely. I wasn’t expecting that answer.

“Are we leaving today?”

He nods slowly, his eyes darker and brighter now, staring at me intensely.

That’s when I notice the blanket has slipped down and my breasts are exposed. I cover myself without thinking too much about it. A handsome prince like him has probably seen breasts far more attractive than mine.

“You only have to say the words, Celine.” He moves close enough for me to feel his breath. “And, please, cover yourself a little more.”

I swallow hard when I hear him. Does my body offend him? I push that thought out of my head quickly and focus on what

matters.

“I accept you as my mate, Bastian Thorn.”

I don’t know at what point I finished all the breakfast when Bastian removes the tray from my lap and walks toward the door. He looks at me and, before he can say anything. I’m already covered up to my shoulders.

Someone hands him several bags, and he leaves them on the bed.

“Everything is your size. You can take a shower and get dressed.”

He sits back down in the chair, and I don’t move.

“Bastian, could you…?” He arches an eyebrow and tilts his head slightly. “Could you step outside for a moment so I can get up. please?”

“No.” He answers sharply.

“But…”

“I already saw you naked, Celine. Who do you think undressed you last night? I wasn’t going to let anyone else touch you’

I go silent, all the air leaving my lungs. If he took my clothes off, then he probably saw my marks.

“But why did you do it?”

He stands and turns around to face the wall.

“Because you were covered in mud, blood, and smelled like the bastard I killed for daring to touch you.” His deep voice makes my body tense, but if it hadn’t been for him, I would probably be dead or completely ruined by now. “Now hurry up. I’m not going to stand here staring at the painting in front of me all day.”

“Thank you for defending me last night. I forgot to thank you… and I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable.”

When he turns around to look at me, I’m already wrapped in a sheet.

“Uncomfortable? With what?”

“With my… scars.”

I stare at the floor in embarrassment when I hear his heavy footsteps approaching me.

“Did you do those to yourself?”

I shake my head silently without lifting my gaze. He gently takes my chin, forcing me to look at him.

“Then never be ashamed of them. They don’t make me uncomfortable. What enrages me is not having been here sooner to stop it and make them pay for every lash.” His deep voice softens just slightly, and the look in his eyes promises far more than he says. “But don’t worry… they’ll pay.”

“Are you going to touch me inappropriately?”

“Only if you want me to.” I could swear Mister “No Expressions” curled his lips for barely a second before wiping it away.

“Sit closer, Prince Thorn. Eat with me. As for the rest… we’ll see about that later.”

He nods and pulls the chair close enough to reach for the cup on the tray.

Now that Prince Thorn looks more relaxed and has spoken more than four words in a row, I feel comfortable enough to eat with him.

“Later.”

I lift my eyes from the toast I was about to spread with jam when I hear his voice again.

“Later what, prince?”

He gently takes the toast from my hand along with the small spoon of jam, taking care of spreading it himself before handing it back to me.

“You said, ‘we’ll see about that later. And stop calling me prince. You can call me by my name without using my title or rank, Celine.” He takes a second before continuing, watching me carefully. “You made a decision while you were staring so intently at your breakfast, didn’t you?”

Yes. I did.

I’m not going to stay here so Anne can send men to abuse me again, nor do I want to become the target of my father’s/or my brother Cassius’s anger once more. I know that if I stay in this pack, there won’t be a safe place for me to hide. I know I’m going to die or, at the very least, they’re going to torture me, but I also know that if I leave, Bastian can protect me.
