Chapter 73
And that manages to awaken a small spark of respect within me.
You’re not a good man, Bastian Thorn. I know your reputation. His voice is weak, but his red eyes remain fixed on mine I only want to make sure she’s alright, that she’s being treated with respect or…
“Or what. Tanner?” I interrupt him, letting out a cold smile. “If you know my reputation, if you know I’m capable of ending you in a second, I don’t understand what the hell you’re doing here, in my kingdom, in my castle, and without an invitation Are you that eager to die?”
“I’m not afraid of you.” His voice trembles and yet he continues looking at me. “Nor can I afford to be if Celine’s well-being is at stake.”
Tanner’s eyes widen when I rise to my feet.
A second later, I’m on him.
My fingers wrap around his neck and I throw him against the wall beside the fireplace with enough force to crack the stone The impact sends ashes falling onto the carpet, and the sound of the collision echoes throughout the room.
He tries to shift, but I don’t allow him to. My power crushes his before he can even complete the transformation, and I wrap one hand around his neck once again. A simple movement would be enough to tear his head off and let his corpse bleed out on the office carpet.
That easily.
That insignificant is the difference between us.
“By what right, Tanner?” I growl very close to his face. “Who the hell do you think you are?”
My forehead almost touches his. His eyes are red and furious, incapable of doing anything while he tries to pry my fingers away from his throat. I am three times larger, stronger, older.
And he doesn’t stand a single chance.
I have no right.” The lack of air steals part of his voice. “I just love her… I shouldn’t have rejected her.”
“Not more than I love her, boy.” My lips curve into a cruel smile. “She’s mine. She sleeps in my bed and she’s happy. Last night I marked her, and she marked me. My moon chose to stay by my side from the very first day, and soon this kingdom will have a new heir, because I left my seed inside her last night, during her heat.”
Those words, spoken with the intention to wound, cause something inside him to break. I can see it in his eyes, in the way pain and despair mix with fury, and I can even smell it. But even so, the damned bastard continues fighting, clinging to a hope that died long ago and refusing to accept something that any other wolf would have already understood.
“I only want to….” A cough prevents him from finishing the sentence. “To see her.”
I watch him for several seconds while he continues gasping between my fingers, and a smile slowly spreads across my face.
A cold and cruel smile, the same one that made enemy Alphas and more than one king tremble during the last two centuries of the Thorn reign, because, at the end of the day. Tanner Blackwood still fails to understand something very simple: Celine no longer belongs to him.
She will never belong to him again.
And when I finally speak. I do so with a calmness far more terrifying than any scream.
The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon
“You won’t see her. Tanner. Not today, not ever
I drive a claw into his right eye, and warm blood flows between my fingers before running down my wrist The heart- rending scream that escapes Tanner’s throat makes the windowpanes tremble and blends with the roar of the storm that continues battering the castle. His body arches violently, and his nails rake across my arms in a desperate attempt to push me away, but the difference between us is too great.
“Next time. I’ll leave you truly blind,” I whisper beside his ear as the metallic scent of blood mixes with that of fear and pain
1 release him, and the young man falls heavily onto the carpet. He crawls clumsily, covering his right eye with both hands Blood soaks his fingers and has completely stained his shirt, but only a few seconds later the bleeding begins to lessen.
His body heals quickly.
Too bad it can’t heal his eye.
His breathing is erratic, and the pain has erased every trace of pride from his face. The right side of his face is covered in blood and involuntary tears as he uselessly tries to focus with his remaining eye.
“You’re a son of a bitch.”
I smile and slowly nod as I wipe some of the blood from my fingers with a handkerchief resting on the desk.
“I am. You’re the one who had forgotten.” I calmly look toward the door, and it immediately opens.
Jack appears accompanied by four royal guards. None of them seem surprised by Tanner’s condition. In fact, my friend doesn’t even flinch when he sees the blood on the carpet or the deep marks my claws left on the young Alpha’s face.
The warriors grab Tanner by the arms while he struggles between gasps and curses
“Take him to the dungeon and beat him. If his father doesn’t come for him in…” I raise my eyes toward the wall clock while the raindrops strike the windows. “Ten hours, kill him.”
Jack smiles and gives a small nod to the warriors, signaling them to take him away.
“With pleasure.”
Tanner screams, struggles, and hurls thousands of insults as he is dragged out of the office. He even attempts to shift once more, but he is too weak, and the guards are veterans personally chosen by nie. The door finally closes, and his screams fade into the long corridor.
But I don’t care.
That’s what happens to those who desire what is mine.
To those who dare approach my mate.
To those who dare love her as anything other than their queen.
I remain motionless for a few moments, staring at the drops of blood on my hands and the reddish stains decorating the carpet in front of the fireplace. Zack continues growling in dissatisfaction inside me, but little by little he calms down again.
I walk over to the small sink in the office bathroom and turn on the faucet. The cold water washes the blood from my fingers, and I watch for a few moments as it disappears down the drain. My shirt is stained, so I remove it without the slightest concern and throw it into the trash.
