Chapter 72
The rain continues to pound against the office windows, and the aroma of cold coffee lingers faintly in the air, but my mind remains fixed on Christian’s last words.
Because this is also the first time I have heard of a delayed bond severance.
Once the words of rejection are spoken, the other person is supposed to either accept or refuse them. The one who accepts the rejection is the one who suffers indescribable pain.
Not the other way around.
And judging by Christian’s expression, he seems just as bewildered as I am.
“That doesn’t make any sense,” I mutter as I adjust my shirt once more. “The books are clear regarding rejection. The one who accepts the broken bond is the one who pays the price.”
“I know,” Christian admits, resting both forearms on his legs while interlacing his hands. “In more than a hundred years, I’ve never seen anything like it. I had never even heard of it.”
I narrow my eyes.
Another strange phenomenon joins the growing list of unanswered questions. First it was her blood, then her eyes, and now this. Too many anomalies and too many things that challenge everything we believe we know. And I’m beginning to suspect that Tanner Blackwood has just become living proof that the rules we know may not fully apply to Celine, a suspicion that, far from reassuring me, only increases my need to find answers.
“You may leave, and tell Alpha Blackwood to come up.” The smile that escapes me is anything but warm. On the contrary, it causes Christian to pause for a fraction of a second before opening the door. “We’ll be expecting you for lunch when you
return.”
Christian nods silently and leaves, closing the door behind him.
I lean back in my chair and let out a long sigh, more frustrated than I already was, because apparently I won’t be returning to the bedchamber with my moon for quite some time. I can imagine her waking up, reading the note I left her, having breakfast in front of the fireplace and, most likely, wondering why the hell I’m still missing.
And I still haven’t given her her vitamins.
Tanner Blackwood is an idiot if he thinks I’ll allow him to remain in my castle for very long.
Even before Celine’s uncle set foot in this office. I had already sent a very clear message to his father.
I don’t want him here, on my territory, in my home, and even less near my mate. If Alpha Blackwood does not come personally to retrieve his son within the next twelve hours, tomorrow at dawn I will hand him his corpse.
The thought earns a satisfied growl from Zack, but what irritates me the most is knowing that the idiot still loves her even after his bond with Celine has been permanently severed. And that, by the Goddess, only infuriates me even more, because I never imagined that a man could continue loving the woman he rejected after losing her forever.
Because no one but me has the right to love her, to desire her, or to put his head on the line just to see her one more time.
No one.
My fingers slowly tap against the dark wood of the desk while I watch the storm reflected in the windows.
It’s time to remind that little Alpha who Prince Bastian Thorn is.

The Second Chance Of The Rejected Moon
Because, apparently, in less than a week I have not been cruel enough for them to fear for their lives
First the Miller family.
Then that disastrous welcome Celine received at the castle.
Then the ladies of the court humiliating her.
And now this useless fool desiring her.
Did they really think that finding my mate had softened me?
The very idea is almost insulting.
A smile slowly forms on my lips when the door opens without anyone even bothering to knock.
My eyes immediately lift.
And there he is.
Tanner Blackwood.
}
The man enters the office with slow, hesitant steps. He is pale, with deep shadows beneath his eyes and slightly wrinkled clothes. It is obvious that he made an effort to tidy himself up and maintain some dignity, but even with his shirt impeccably buttoned and his hair combed back, he looks like a man whom life has run over repeatedly.
Or, to be more precise… he looks like an abandoned dog left out in the rain.
And for the first time since I met him, I realize that Christian was not exaggerating
Because the man standing before me no longer resembles the proud Alpha who rejected Celine that morning.
No. This looks like a man whose heart has finally been ripped out.
“Why are you here, Alpha Blackwood?” My voice is low and deep, but it is Zack who truly speaks for me. The icy and almost toxic cold emanating from our body makes Tanner shudder involuntarily. “Was I not clear enough with you the last time we
met?”
He is a strong Alpha, I can see it. Even now, despite the fear I can detect in his scent and the sweat beginning to appear on his skin, he remains standing. But I am a damned pureblood prince, descended from a long line of barbaric, sadistic, and ruthless wolves who built this kingdom with blood and fangs. His legs tremble and instinct demands that he fall to his knees,
but he resists.
But not for long.
I bring him down.
“I came…” He swallows with difficulty, and I watch his throat move beneath his skin. “I came to see Celine.”
I smile.
This time, Zack reveals himself. My eyes change, my fangs lengthen, and part of my wolf’s power is released inside the office. The air grows heavier, and the flames in the fireplace seem to weaken as the invisible pressure falls upon Tanner.
Our power can bend an ordinary wolf until it kills him.
“And why do you want to see my mate?” I ask with a calmness far more terrifying than any shout. “Have you still not accepted that you’ve lost her?”
