Sixteen
The morning sunlight had farely crept over the mountains when a knock came at my door.
“Lady Sylvara?” Talla’s soft voice called “The Alpha wishes for you to come to the council chambers. Everyone has been summoned,”
I blinked, pulling my robe tighter around me, still sore and aching from the previous day. My body felt like it had been through a storm muscles sore, bruises tender, and my mind still tangled from Karen’s presence in the hot spring
“Why?” I muttered. My throat was dry, and I wasn’t ready to face anyone… especially the wolves of Velkorin.
Talia’s expression was unreadable, but her tone didn’t waver. “No idea, Alpha orders. You’d best not keep him waiting, Lady Sylvara.”
I gritted my teeth. “Fine,” I whispered, more to myself than anyone else.
The council chamber was massive, circular, lined with carved stone pillars and thick tapestries that carried the symbols of Velkorin, Pack of every rank were gathered inside. guards, elders, and Kaelen’s harem. The air smelled of authority, musk, and tension.
I stepped in, careful not to draw too much attention. My dress clung to my body, and I could feel the weight of every gaze following me. Some curious, some judging. A few openly sneered.
Maren… of course, she was already there. Her arms crossed, eyes glinting like witch the moment she saw me.
Kaelen stood at the center, as always, radiating power. Even across the room, I could feel it press against me like a physical force. My stomach twisted, part anger, part fear, part something I wasn’t ready to name,
Maren’s voice broke the silence before anyone could speak.
“Alpha Kaelen,” she said, her tone smooth but sharp, like steel sliding over stone. “The reason I requested an audience this morning is… to ensure the rule of your pack stands.”
Karlen’s golden eyes didn’t move from hers, but he said nothing.
Maren continued, her words cutting through the heavy air. “Your new take..” she gestured at me with a faint flick of her wrist, as though I were nothing more than a small insect.”has not undergone any of the trials that Velkorin require to make herself worthy. To be marked as part of this pack. She has done none of the things we expect of one of our own.”
My face burned.
I felt the weight of every wolf’s gaze, all staring me like I was some kind of intruder. My fingers clenched the fabric of my robe, hiding my trembling bands.
Maren’s tone sharpened. “It is my duty to see that she completes all the trials, if she wishes to

remain here. No one is exempt. Even the Alpha’s choices must earn their place, or they remain outsiders.”
Kaelen’s jaw tightened slightly. He remained silent, as though every word she spoke merely bounced off him. His eyes, however, flickered briefly in my direction.
I swallowed hard
Maren raised her hand slightly and began listing them, her voice ringing through the chamber:
“She must pass…. The Trial of Strength – proving she can hold her own against pack warriors.
The Trial of Endurance surviving the harsh northern elements and harsh powers of the enchanters. The Trial of the lust where she is to pleasure herself before you the Alpha. The Trial of the Marking… earning the pack’s mark, binding herself fully to Velkorin.”
I could feel my heart hammering in my chest. Each trial sounded impossible.
I had barely survived the training Kaelen forced me into yesterday, and now this? My hands curled into fists at my sides.
Maren’s golden eyes scanned the chamber as if daring someone to disagree. “If she cannot endure these trials… then she has no right to call herself part of Velkorin. She will remain… a shadow, an outsider, a weak omega unworthy of this pack.”
I felt a surge of anger, sharp and hot. My cheeks flushed. “I… I just have to do all these right,” I said before I could stop myself, my voice stronger than I expected. “Then I will.”
A few heads turned, shocked that I had dared to speak. Maren smirked, a cruel twist of her lips.
“Bold words, little omega,” she said. “But words mean nothing without results. I’ll be watching you.”
Kaelen finally spoke, his voice cutting through the chamber like a blade.
“You will take the trials,” he said calmly, addressing me, his gaze sharp and unreadable.” Failure to pass would bring great consequences.”
I swallowed, nodding stiffly, trying to hide how much my hands were trembling. His eyes flicked toward Maren, and I caught a flash of warning there.
Maren scoffed softly but didn’t argue further. “Very well. I will prepare the trials. May she survive what awaits her.”
The room grew tense, the other wolves murmuring quietly among themselves. Some were curious, others skeptical. I felt their judgment like a weight pressing down on me.
Kaelen’s voice broke the murmurs. “Council is dismissed. Sylvara, you will begin your first trial at dawn.”
My stomach twisted. Dawn… only hours from now.

I bowed my head slightly, trying to hide my fear and fury. “Yes, Alpha.”
As I turned to leave, Maren’s voice followed me, sharp and mocking.
“Don’t fail. It would be… very disgraceful to the pack to have the Alpha humiliated by his own little omega.”
I clenched my fists and bit my lip. My whole body burned… not just from the words, but from the look Kaelen had given me. Something fierce and unreadable… like a warning, or a promise.
The corridors leading back to my room felt colder than usual. Every shadow seemed to whisper doubt. Every sound echoed my own hear beat, which was fast and uneven.
I sank onto my bed once I was alone, hands gripping the edge of the mattress. The trials… each one sounded impossible. Strength, endurance, mind, loyalty, lust, marking. Every one of them designed to push me to the edge.
And yet… somehow, beneath the fear and humiliation, a spark of determination flickered.
I would prove them wrong.
I would survive.
