Jacqueline cocked her head to one side and viewed her sister

curiously.

“Why are you crying?”

“It hurts.”

“What hurts?”

“You are stealing them from me, and you don’t even need them. You have our creator as your own real mother. Why can’t you simply let me have my family? Why must you torture me, turn them against me, take them from me when you are the Queen of Kings and Queens?”

Jacqueline sighed at the commentary. “You think that you are

the only one who is entitled to parents and a sibling?”

“You have a goddess!” Jacinta screamed.

Jacqueline shook her head, “I was born of Winika and Jack. Their blood, their DNA runs through my veins. I am as much their child as you are and yet you think you deserve them more because I hold a connection to a spiritual entity who does not reside in this realm?”

“Yes! Yes. I do believe it. We were happy without you in our family. You’ve been back a handful of days and you’ve already made everyone miserable. You’re a jinx, a blight on the Frost name. I am the true princess, and you should never have been born. I wish I’d have killed you as an infant instead

of simply dumping you at that hospital.”

Jacqueline heard the gasp from Winika, and she turned her head to look at her. “This,” she waved at Jacinta, “is the daughter you were so concerned about, Winika. You choose

her over me.”

“No. I did not choose you over her. I simply want both of my daughters to be safe and secure and to know I love them. Why must I pick for one of my daughters to be left out? Why can’t I love you both?”

“You decided ages ago to pretend you didn’t know what she did and your decision to block yourself from revealing her secret means you enabled her. You could have taken your 2/10

Instead, you suspected she was part of my disappearance, and you did nothing to fix it. You already chose the daughter you wanted when you opted to protect her from the investigation.”

“That’s untrue.”

“You protected her.”

“Your remorse is noted,” Jacqueline commented. “You are not the one facing judgment today however.”

“Mom,” Jack spoke furiously, “Jacqueline is right. You knew Jacinta took her, you knew your daughter better than anyone and you chose her over your newborn. Look what you’ve done,” he waved angrily at Jacinta. “You created a

monster. She is a monster. She is not the embodiment of a

fae, especially one of royal blood. She is cruel, calculating,

selfish!”

“She is your sister!” Winika yelled at him.

“She tore our family apart and you are protecting her.”

He yelled back. “She ripped our family apart and she is still doing it. She’s blaming Jacqueline for her behavior. Jacqueline was a newborn, minutes old and she ripped her from her mother and father and brother out of nothing more than jealousy and misinterpreted vision. It cost her all of her powers, her connection to her family and her mate and instead of realizing how damn angry the Queen Mother is at her for her behavior, she is doubling down on her bullshit.”

“She’s confused.”

“She’s not confused, Mom. She’s cruel and narcissistic and you fuel her sickness by catering to her whims. You are responsible for this insanity. I love you but the fact you are not accepting your role in all of this tells me everything I need to know about why Jacinta is the way she is. She’s a chip off the old block.”

“Jack, enough,” his father growled angrily.

“No. It’s not enough. She is your mate, but you’ve let them both live too long without facing the repercussions of their actions. You need to stop coddling them, Dad. Jacinta is standing there saying she wishes she’d killed Jacqueline and Mom is defending her and you’re silent. I won’t be silent. My 4/10

“Jack!” Jacinta yelled at him. “I was your sister first!”

“You stopped being my sister when you became a monster, Jacinta. There was a part of me who could have forgiven you, if you were truly remorseful. If you were on your knees, begging for forgiveness, explaining your behavior in a way which makes sense.” He looked around the room. “Today, I

am ashamed to bear the name Frost.”

“You don’t mean that,” his father seemed stunned.

“I do. Whatever the Queen Mother tells you to do, Jac,” he looked at Jacqueline, “not only will I abide by it, but I support it and I support you. I cannot help but think that Jacinta with her jealousy, her pattern of behavior and the way she caused my wife to be alienated away from the people in this realm, could potentially cause harm to my own children. If she’d hurt her sister, who is to say she wouldn’t hurt a niece or nephew.”

Jacqueline nodded at him, “thank you for your support Jack. The Queen Mother wants you to know that she hears you, feels your sorrow and your fears. She knows too, the weight of the decisions you are facing. She asks me to relay to you to be patient and not make choices today out of anger and resentment.” Jacqueline smiled at him, “pray on it. The

answers will reveal themselves to you at the right time.”

“Thank you sister. I love you. I am your servant, today,

tomorrow and forever.” He took a knee in her direction and

then spoke again.

Jacqueline looked back to Jacinta. “Jacinta, you have made your choices, your decisions, very clear. You show no remorse. The Queen Mother has a message for you. “You are

asked one final time whether you wish you to turn your life

back to the Queen Mother and to begin a life of servitude

and repentance.”

“I am only sorry you exist.” Jacinta growled out.

Jacqueline looked to the priestesses seated to her left and right. “Proceed.”

The room seemed to freeze in time as all six priestesses appeared to fall into a trance. The four priestesses at their 6/10

feet chanting in a low hum of harmony while the entire room grew icy, vines of glistening silver emerged from the water towards Jacinta and formed a cage around the platform

where she stood.

The high priestess of the Northern Realm suddenly snapped her eyes to Jacinta and in a voice which echoed in the sanctum spoke resolutely. “You have no powers, Jacinta Frost of the Frost bloodline. You are hereby stripped of your royal bloodline. When you leave this temple, the bond of daughter and sister will be removed, and the love bond will be severed by the Queen Mother herself. Your family will not feel for you what they are feeling for you in this moment. You will not be permitted to reside in the palace. You will not be permitted servants. You are removed from all benefits of the Frost

family. Anyone who goes against this ruling goes against the ruling of the Queen Mother herself and will face punishment.”

“No!” Jacinta wailed out loud.

Then the priestess of the Southern Realm spoke, her eyes fixed on the woman in the frozen cage. “Jacinta Frost, you will never know the bond of a mate. You will never know the love of a child. You will never feel a family connection to any living creature. You will spend the rest of your days longing for a

connection to your sister, but you will feel nothing but a hollow ache.”

“This is too cruel!” Jacinta wrapped her palms around the cold bars with tears on her face.

“The Queen Mother watches,” Jacqueline spoke next, “and she will over time decide whether you eventually realize the cruelty of your own actions. The life you tried to impose on me, without bonds, without love, without my family, are now your sentence from the Queen Mother. She recognizes people change and can become remorseful. Whether it is days, weeks, months, years, decades or millennia or never, will be up to you Jacinta but you will not be granted a shortened life to avoid the penalty of your actions.”

Jacqueline closed her eyes as did all the priestesses and they all began chanting as if in one voice. Jacqueline knew the moment the bond between Jacinta and her parents and brother was completely severed because Winika’s scream of pain reverberated around them. She felt the agony in her father’s sobs. She felt Jack’s heartbreak as his sister was no longer his sister. Their cries were genuine and true, and Jacqueline felt her own tears roll down her cheeks at the pain and loss of the family with which she shared her own bond.

“Jacinta will be banished from the Frost Realm and will be relocated to the Northern European realm.” Jacqueline spoke

without opening her eyes, “say your goodbyes now to the

Frosts, Jacinta.”

“This is cruel.”

“It is what you inflicted on me and yet you didn’t seem to think it cruel then and in fact stand here still wishing you’d

succeeded.”

“This is your fault! You can’t do this to me Jacqueline!”

A voice rose from the water, shocking the room, and Jacqueline had to fight her smirk as the Queen Mother herself voiced her opinion and her sentence.

“This is my will. My choices. My punishment. How dare you defy the commandment of your creator? Jacqueline is my vessel, but she is your superior. You are fortunate to breathe her air.” A wave of water rushed up from around the pedestal, swallowing the cage in it’s entirety and when it subsided the entire cage, pedestal and Jacinta were gone. Then a flash of light blinded the room as if cleansing it and it knocked Jack and Winika onto their backs.

Jacqueline reached her hand to the water and smiled as it drifted towards her, wrapped around her, slinked over her shoulders as if in a hug and then evaporated in a mist.

The priestesses all fell to their faces in awe and Jacqueline slumped in her throne, exhausted and feeling numb.

She looked to the trio she still needed to deal with, each for

different reasons and realized being tired would have to

wait. There was still work to do.
