Jacqueline was feeling toasty warm despite the chill in the air as she walked back to the ski lodge hotel. Rafferty was carrying her bags, and both men were holding her hands as they strolled up the hill.

They were nearing the driveway and Rafferty huffed, “what is wrong with her?”

“Who?” Jacqueline asked as she followed his gaze and then noted Jacinta standing on a balcony glowering down at them. “Oh, her.”

“There is definitely something not right.” Wilder said

seriously. “For someone who swore she was distraught by your disappearance is not giving off warm and fuzzy vibes with your reappearance.”

“You know who else isn’t giving off warm and fuzzy?” Rafferty asked as he jilted his chin in the direction of the open seating area of the bar attached to the lodge.

“Jack,” Jacqueline muttered. “He went from begging me to let him be my big brother to protect me and care for me to whatever the fuck that scowling thing is.”

“Testing a theory,” Wilder said as he moved his hand and

boldly grabbed her ass.

She jumped at the action and Rafferty snickered.

“Yeah. He’s not liking us being all over his little sister. I kind of want to make out with you in front of him just to see how blue

he’ll turn.”

“Very funny, Rafferty. We’re not making out just to piss off

Jack. The notion makes me feel icky.”

“What kind of making out wouldn’t make you feel icky?”

Wilder wiggled his eyebrows at her.

“The kind which is genuine and real. Not pheromones or

compulsion from mate bonds or trying to upset other people.”

She twisted her lips, “like at the pub. I liked that.”

“You did?”

“I did.”

“I like kissing you too, Jacqueline,” Wilder said seriously.

“Me too,” Rafferty nodded. “We should get a bottle of wine and go sit together, just the three of us, either in the big lounge area or somewhere more private like one of our rooms and spend time together. A little wine. A little kissing. Perhaps some groping.” As she started to protest he clarified, “no sex, Jacqueline. We both know you’re not ready for that and we’ve agreed to respect the boundaries you’ve set. We do however want to get closer to you.””

“Okay.” She nodded when they reached the entrance of the hotel. “I really don’t want to deal with any of them,” she waved her hands around, “I’m going to take my things up to my room and if you can find a quiet place for us I’m happy to join but I’m not ready to sit in either of your bedrooms and I’m not ready for you to be in mine.”

“I will find us a quiet spot.” Wilder said seriously. “Go put your things away. Meet us by the reception desk say in thirty minutes? That should give you time to put your things away, catch your breath and fluff your hair,” he teased her as he plucked her hat off her head. “Not that this isn’t very cute,” he

stroked the top of her head.

“Oh!” she gave him a shove and took her bags from Rafferty.

“Wait,” Wilder said. “I think we need to implement a rule. No 3/6

leaving one another without kisses.”

“Yeah, that’s not happening. I work with you. I’m not going to

be in the office and kissing you in front of my coworkers.”

“Yeah, but you’re not in the office around coworkers.” He

crooked his finger, “come here.”

She stepped into him and tilted her head to accept the kiss he bestowed to her lips. Soft and tender, he swept his lips over hers, cupping her cheeks gently in his palms. When he pulled his lips away it was reluctantly and his fingers cradling

her face with reverence.

“Wow,” he whispered. “It’s always wow.”

She couldn’t help the smile pulling her cheeks at his words.

“My turn,” the quiet words coming from beside them made

her turn her head.

As Wilder’s hands fell away from her face, Rafferty’s replaced them, pulling her closely to him, his long fingers wrapping around her face to lace through her hair. Tilting her head, he positioned his mouth over hers and with a longing sigh, he kissed her. Like Wilder’s kiss, it was sweet 4/6

soon.

“Go put your things away. The sooner you go, the sooner you come back to us.” Wilder said as he encouraged her to leave them. “I know I want to clean up a bit and brush my teeth so I can get some more of those kisses.”

She nodded shyly and turned away. At the base of the stairs, she looked back, and both men were watching her carefully and she gave a little wave as she took the stairs to her first–floor room. She nearly went back down the stairs when she noted her parents standing outside her room.

“Jacqueline, honey, are you okay? Jack said you were with a bear shifter.” Winika’s voice called loudly.

Jacqueline looked around in disbelief. Was she really screaming such things out in the middle of a hallway in a human owned lodge filled with humans? She shot Jack a warning glance and he put his hand on his wife’s arm.

“We aren’t in your home,” Jacqueline hissed at her, “so I’ll ask that you not freak out the other guests of this establishment.”

She held up her bag of books. “I bought some books at the

bookstore if that is what you were asking. Then I had dinner 5/6

“You were with the twins?” Jack asked curiously stepping aside so she could use her key to open her room.

“Yes. I was with the twins. We had dinner and now we’re

going to meet again and spend the evening together.”

“I wanted us to spend the evening together,” Winika pushed past her and shoved into Jacqueline’s room.

Jacqueline looked down at her fingers clutching the bag of

books and noted the blue tint creeping along her skin. These fucking Frosts were becoming too much.
