Her breath was held high in her chest as she watched her mate defend their bond and their relationship. “You speak of taking advantage? You who tricked her into

The two men were chest to chest and Jacqueline slid around Rafferty and moved to get between them. She put her hand on their chests and pushed them apart.

“Wilder,” she called his name and his furious gaze fell to

her. “Thank you.” She kissed his lips softly, “it’s okay. Take a

breath. We’re drawing a crowd of looky–loos. Let’s take a step

back.”

Wilder wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to his frame, looking over her shoulder at Jack who was glowering.

“I’m fine, mate.”

“Yes you are,” she flirted causing him to chuckle. “Very fine

indeed.”

He nuzzled her neck as Rafferty came around the table to

stand with them.

“Jacqueline,” Jack spoke softly.

She turned in Wilder’s arms, holding his arms around her belly while Rafferty linked her fingers through her hand atop 2/7

Wilder’s forearm. “Jack. I keep telling you that the way you behave is boorish and not anything I want to be a part of. You do not have the right to act like some kind of overprotective brother when your own actions cause me harm.”

“He hasn’t hurt you!” Jacinta snarled.

“Oh, would you drop dead? Please. Just go crawl back into the hole you slithered out of like the snake you are and die.”

“Jacqueline!” Jack was wide–eyed.

“Jack. I want you to hear me well. I don’t want to be your sister. I don’t want to be related to her. She is poison. I spent

most of my life reading the signs of the people I was stuck

around and when I tell you that I read her very well, let me

assure you that I do. I also judge people by the company

they keep and the fact she is always at your elbow makes me think you are an asshole.”

“You don’t mean that,” Jack looked thunder struck by her

comments.

“Jacinta, I want you to hear me. I know it was you. I don’t care that Jack and your parents don’t believe me. I know it was you. I will find a way to prove it was you. I think you hurt yourself in order to cover your tracks when you got rid of me.” she waved at Jacinta’s scar on her forehead. “The longer you continue to hound me, insult me, chase me to make me look bad in front of your family the closer you are to slipping up and letting them see your true colors. I cannot wait for that veil of the perfect princess to be ripped from your face, and they see you for who you are. Oh, and you should know, all the people who do love me, care for me, and see me for the person I am, they know if anything happens to me, who

Jacqueline looked at Jack. “Did you see that Jack? She didn’t deny it. In fact, I would say she’s panicking right about now because I called her out to her face and the twins didn’t

defend her and she knows.”

“You really believe this?” Jack looked at the trio in disbelief.

“She is your blood.”

“How many times in the history of the world has family killed

family? You never accused her and she got away with it.

She’s freaking out right now because all of her lies and plans

are at risk of being exposed. The reason she’s following me, chasing me, stalking me is because she knows I know and she’s wondering how I can prove it.”

Wilder nodded, “Jack, we will protect our mate to the death

and if that means we need to take excessive measures to

keep her safe, then we will do so. Consider yourself and your

sister warned that if you continue to harass and upset our

mate, you’re making enemies.”

“They are my sisters.”

Rafferty spoke succinctly. “She lost herself more than your mother did, and you need to figure out if your blindness to her behavior is helping her or hurting Jacqueline.”

Jacqueline took a breath, “why don’t we take our wine to my room. I’m done having the same conversation in twenty different ways.”

“That’s a great idea,” Rafferty grabbed the bottle and the two glasses. He patted Jack on the shoulder. “I’d wish you good night but somehow I think it might be too late for you.”

“You’re wrong,” he said suddenly.

“I really hope you can prove we’re wrong before we prove we’re right.” Jacqueline said as she let her mates lead her

away.
