< The Seduction of Jac Frost
Chat with Mother
Chapter 50
Jacqueline was sitting between Bar’s legs, her back to
his chest as she looked into the small bowl of water he’d prepared for her. When she’d told him she could communicate through water, he’d offered her the glass bowl.
The water glistened in the sunlight coming through an upper window of the cabin and she tapped the stillness.
“Mother.” She called for her. “I need you.”
She sat staring into the bowl and then the water stilled completely and her mother’s voice was audible in her head and everything around her seemed suddenly frozen in time. She looked at Bar who was staring at her unblinking and nearly laughed at the absurdity. Here he thought he’d be getting a glimpse of his future mother–in–law and instead the Queen Mother herself froze him in time like he was water on the coldest arctic day.
“Ah, you solved another riddle, my daughter.”
“Why can’t I feel it?”

“Because you haven’t let yourself.” Her mother said simply.
“You are still holding too much anger, Jacqueline and leaving those walls which are cracking to still stand. Let them break my child.”
“How?”
“Let go of the rage.”
It sounded far easier than done.
“The twins pissed me off,” she muttered with annoyance.
O
“They are not perfect. None of your mates are.”
“None of my mates?” She grunted, “how many do I have?
Please tell me that there are only three! I was struggling to
imagine how I was supposed to please two mates and now I need to satisfy three.”
“All of my creatures bow to you, Jacqueline. It is up to them to satisfy you, not the other way around.”
“Is Bar one of your creatures?”

“How many species are yours?” she asked exasperatedly. “Do I have other siblings in other species?”
“You are my only true offspring still alive in any realm, Jacqueline. I’ve told you this. There are no other siblings. You
are it. You are the Queen of Queens and Kings. I simply didn’t
tell you I meant all Queens and Kings.”
She rubbed her chest as it constricted painfully. “You’re
saying I am to rule over bears too?”
“All shifters of the land, all merfolk of the sea, all the fae of all
the realms and their subspecies.”
“All shifters of the land?” She frowned, “wait, there are
merfolk?”
“Do you think I would leave out the oceans? They actually qualify as shifters but since they tend to stay close to water and in small groups, it’s really unfair to label them the same as shifters.”
“How many kinds of shifters are there?”

“Several. Wolves, bears, cats, lizards but you call them
dragons, foxes and let’s not forget apes.”
“Apes? Like gorillas?”
“The story of Tarzan was not entirely based in fiction.” Mother said dryly.
Jacqueline huffed with annoyance, “why did you not tell me?”
“You need to learn to ask better questions.”
“Why would you make me queen of all these creatures, Mother and not give me the basic details?”
“My darling child, you were already dealing with two mates, an insane sister and parents who aren’t willing accept their own failures as parents. I knew you would find your way to
Bar. The rest would come.”
“You didn’t answer my question.”
“Which question, my child?”
“Do I only have three mates?” she muttered under her breath, “I can’t believe that question needs an only in it.” 4/14

“You were blessed with three mates, and they will be the only three mates you have until death do you all part.”
“Thank fuck.” She sighed dramatically, “two of them are on my shit list. They were all cozied up to her and then looked all guilty like I wouldn’t have seen through their plan.”
“In their defense, they meant well and were following River’s
ideas,” Mother said with a laugh in her tone. “They were trying to figure out ways to get her to spill what she’d done by making it seem they were on her side.”
“Dumbest fucking plan alive,” she growled angrily. “What was River thinking?”
“She was thinking that Jacinta was longing so much for things
to be the way they were when they were younger and so she believed if they recreated what it was like as children, they could somehow get Jacinta to recall walking past the hospital when they were younger. You would know this if you’d not run off in a huff and allowed her and your mates to explain.”
She closed her eyes and shook her head in disbelief. “Still think it’s stupid.”

“Well, you weren’t there to set them straight when they came
up with their foolish plot, were you?”
“No. I was meeting my mother and learning to do cool things like communicate through bowls of water and teleport anywhere in the world and build entire buildings and
structures out of vines and flora.”
“Important lessons, indeed.”
Jacqueline sighed, “so Queen of Queens and Kings of all species of shifters and fae?”
“I’m afraid so. I didn’t want to overwhelm you too soon, but it seems your mate is smart, though I knew that already. He picked up right away you can communicate with animals.”
“Yeah, he’s smart. Hot too. Why can’t I feel the bond? Will it always be like this because I do not have an animal counterpart?” She froze for a moment, “or do I have some kind of beast ready to pop out too and screw with my mind
even more?”
A delighted laugh escaped her mother’s lungs, “you do not have a beast, but your bond will be as real as it is between any and all shifters and fae. You simply need to finish 6/14

breaking the spell you cast upon yourself. You are far more powerful than you give yourself credit for, my child. You can break it. You started it with Jack. Finish it, Jacqueline.”
“How?”
“You need to learn to love. When you learn to love, it will all fall into place, my darling child. You are still guarding your heart, still responding to situations with anger and rage instead of contemplation and consideration. I told you this
would hurt and life, a real life, is never going to be about the easy way, Jacqueline. You cannot learn to love if you cannot
be vulnerable.”
“Why do I need three mates? What is wrong with one or two?” she grunted, “or none? Why do I even need a mate? I can do this shit on my own.”
“There is no doubt in my mind, but you have longed for family your entire life. Do you truly wish to let it go when it’s right within your grasp.”
“No.” she mumbled realizing she was behaving like a spoiled brat and unable to help herself. Something about the Queen Mother treating her like she was special made her wish she was a little girl again and coddled. 7/14

“The twins will be your connection to the fae. The bear will be
your connection to shifters. Your offspring will bind them all.”
“This is insane.” She sighed loudly. “I really need three?”
“Yes unless you choose to reject them all and come back to me.” Mother’s voice sounded hopeful.
“How many offspring?”
“You know I can’t tell you that.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yes.” The laughs were audible now. “Is there anything else I
can do for you?”
“How do I feel the bond?”
“It is up to you to figure out.”
“I really want to feel it.”
“Then that is a start.”

“You are being exasperatingly vague.”
“Now what fun would your life be if you had all the answers ahead of time. Besides, not everything is a specific plan. Choices, decisions, or situations can all impact a trajectory. Each time a creation makes a choice it sets in motion
outcomes.”
“I know,” she leaned back and stared at Bar, “he’s really good looking.”
“He has his own pain and his own troubles. He’s used to living alone and being a solitary creature. There will be struggles between your mates as they adjust. He is a stranger to them
and they to him.”
“They knew each other.”
“They knew of each other. There is a difference.”
“I guess.”
“Especially when it comes to intimacy.”
“They’re all already such jealous bastards.”

“That’s one way to loosen up,” Mother sighed, “just
remember, fae do not have the same alcohol tolerances as
other creatures. You drink and drink and drink and it feels
like nothing and then bam, it hits you and suddenly you’re in
the middle of a field with six hundred of our closest friends
dancing around a maypole.”
The comment made Jacqueline’s eyes widen.
“Oh–kay, then,” she cleared her throat, “on that note Mother,
I will let you get back to whatever it is you were doing and
I will figure out how to tell Wilder and Rafferty the guy they are horribly jealous of is my third mate.”
“Good luck with that.”
Jacqueline sighed as the connection closed and leaned
against Bar.
“Well, are you going to call her?”

She laughed at the question, unable to stop herself. “I’ve
been talking to her for ages. She froze you out.”
“No!” he protested as he leaned over her shoulder to look in the bowl. “Really? Why?”
“Because this,” she pointed to her chest, “is as close to the Queen Mother as you get.”
“She prefers to be called the Queen Mother?”
“I call her Mother.”
“What did she say?”
“She said I am the Queen of Queens and Kings of all her
creations which are fae and shifter alike.” She grinned suddenly, “merfolk too!”
“I’ve never met one,” Bar said frowning as he took the bowl
out of her hand and set it aside. “I heard the females are
some of the most beautiful creatures known on the planet.” He grunted as an elbow stuck in his ribs. “None as beautiful
as my mate though.” He chuckled as he kissed her ear, “you
really are a jealous one.”

She wrinkled her nose at him and leaned against his chest.
“We need to tell Wilder and Rafferty.”
“Do we? Let’s just live here in the cabin. You can monitor the
world through a bowl of water.”
“I need to deal with Jacinta.” She sighed dramatically. “I
want to make her pay. I know right now she’s back at the lodge, pouting and sobbing and putting on a good show for her parents and I want to make her suffer. I want her to understand that her payment is coming due and I’m the bill
collector.”
“I’m in. You tell me what you need from me and I’m there.”
“I mean it was really hot when you pinned her to the counter. Maybe we could have you chase her through the woods
while she screams.”
“She could just teleport away.”
“Nope. I’m taking all her powers away. The only way she can
teleport is if someone takes her with them.”
“No way!” He gave a joyous shout. “You can take her
powers?” 12/14

“Yes. I can and I will. She continues to make questionable choices. The Queen Mother has already removed her mate and removed her enhanced powers such as her gift of foresight. It’s my job to sort out whether she wants to repent and rehabilitate or if she’s going to need to live the rest of her life as a fae with no powers, no mate and to rely on her family.”
“Whatever help you need, I am here for you, Jacqueline.”
“Thank you Bar.” She stared into his eyes, “Mother said you were going to have difficulty adjusting to a life that is not
solitary. I am here for you too, Bar. Whatever happens, I know
I can’t feel the full extent of the bond but know that I am here
for you.”
“Did she explain to you how to feel it?”
“She said I need to love.”
Bar smiled, “well I think we can help with that.” He shot a glance towards the closed door of the cabin, “speaking of we, two fae princes have followed your scent. They are not far from here. They are going to be so pissed.”
