As the mist was getting closer I could feel the goosebumps rising on my skin and the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
"Shift now. Something isn’t right." I say.
"Agreed. You go first." Tyler says. So I had to block everything else out. I concentrated to picture myself with paws and a snout and fur and then it started happening.
I let out a scream when the first bone broke and rearranged and then the next and the next. It took about 10 minutes for me to shift which was really painful but as soon as it was over, Tyler shifted in seconds and we both took off into the woods.
We were headed back to our pack territory but I could feel that black mist following us. Tyler was trying to stay behind me but I didn’t know how he planned on fighting it off. We could barely see it. It wasn’t an actual being to fight.
We ran as fast as we could and I had no problem keeping up with Tyler as we ran towards the pack and once we reached pack land and were back on our territory the mist stopped just outside the boarder.
It was just lingering in the air and Tyler and I looked at each other but turned around and ran towards the packhouse. We grabbed some clothes that were hidden in a tree just inside the woods and shifted back. Tyler shifted first and held me as I screamed in pain as I shifted back to my human self. Again needing to concentrate on what I looked like as a human so that I could shift. Then he handed me some clothes and we ran up to the packhouse.
"Why didn’t they cross the border. They were on Ethan’s territory." Tyler says.
"I don’t know. But they weren’t there for Angelo." I say.
"How do you know that? Some vampires have extra abilities." He says.
"I know. I can’t explain it. But they just weren’t there for Angelo. They were there for another reason. Someone else sent that crap after me." I say.
"Alright. Well, now we need to find out what the hell it was." He says as we walked inside.
We got Cade, Carter, Aria and Bella in the conference room and explained to them about the black mist and my vampire heritage and tell them to reach out to their contacts and find out everything that they can about my real father. But do not let them know who I am. I have to remain hidden.
We weren’t going to do anything tonight. It was already late and we needed to get some rest before we dove into any kind of research. And Tyler and I headed upstairs to our room.
I went to have a shower and I got dressed and then Tyler did as well. He climbed into bed next to me and asked me what was going through my head.
"You don’t want to know. Trust me." I say.
"As long as it’s no more nonsense about me rejecting you then I think I can handle it." He says pulling me into his arms.
"How did I know that they weren’t here for Angelo? It was just a feeling that I had, but how did I know." I say.
"Ethan told me that you always knew when people were lying or telling the truth. He never understood it but I was always right. Do you think that might have something to do with it. Maybe it’s part of your vampire heritage." He says.
"Maybe. But that’s another thing. Vampires can’t reproduce. So how the hell am I even here?" I asked.
"Obviously you are a special care. Sent by the Moon Goddess. It is said that Angelo is half vampire half werewolf himself. Maybe that’s why. I mean, we’re assuming that you can get pregnant." He says.
"Hopefully." I say. And he pulled his head back and looked at me dead in the eye like I just grew two heads. " What?" I asked confused.
"You want to have my pups?" He asked.
"What made you think that I didn’t? Just because I’m not ready yet." I say.
"We haven’t really talked about it." He says.
"To be honest, we haven’t really talked about much at all. Too much shit has happened around here." I say. " We will talk about it. But not right now. I’m too tired." I say. So he kissed the top of my head and we settled in for the night to get a good night sleep. Hopefully a peaceful one.
The following morning I woke up before Tyler and I decided to get dressed into black and white tights, a white sports bra, a sweater, socks and sand shoes.
I left the packhouse and started jogging straight into the woods and started running around the boarder. But I was far enough back from the boarder that I wasn’t near the patrols. So that I didn’t spook them. But I did see them watching me.
The territory was quite large and because I hadn’t worked out in a while I could only do one lap before I was exhausted and headed back to the packhouse.
I walked inside and I grabbed a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich and took it upstairs to the bedroom.
Tyler looked like he had just gotten up and he was looking in the bathroom for something.
"Loose something?" I asked.
"Yeah. You. Where did you go?" He asked.
"For a jog around the territory. I haven’t worked out in ages. I could only do one lap." I say finishing my sandwich.
"I wish you wouldn’t take off like that." He says.
"I know. Kind of hard not to though." I say.
"Does it mention what kind of powers he might possess. Because you two were chased by shadows." Bella says.
"It was more like a mist. But no, no one says anything about any kind of powers that he has. Maybe he keeps that to himself, for obvious reasons." I say pinching the bridge of my nose.
Tyler walked over and started rubbing my shoulders and says that maybe we should take a little break.
I look up at him and smile. " That sounds like a good idea. I could really use something to eat." I say standing up. So we all headed to the kitchen and it was empty. No one was around, so I started pulling things out of the fridge and cupboards and started making sandwiches for everyone.
We sat around eating outside on the patio area because it was nicer in the sun and I was listening to everyone talking but was quickly distracted by something in the woods. I noticed that the trees were moving at an odd angle.
"Tessssssa." They hissed to me. So I grabbed Tyler’s hand and nodded toward the woods and he noticed it as well.
The others looked and that was the first time they had seen a glimpse of what we saw the night before. That was nothing compared to what we were running from.
"Can you hear that?" I asked and they looked at me confused.
"We can’t even hear the trees moving which is weird enough." Carter confessed.
"They’re whispering my name." I say.
"Okay. Maybe we need to find out a lot faster what the hell is going on around here." Tyler says squeezing my hand tighter.
"How? There’s barely anything written about where Angelo might be. There’s been no recorded sighting of him in about five years." I say.
"I’ve got calls out to some reliable contacts. They’ll get back to me the second they hear anything." Cade says.
We all went back inside together and were headed back to the library when someone rang the doorbell. Tyler went to answer it and he just stood there for a moment before I heard him yell.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" He yelled. Then a younger man pushed past him into the house and he dropped his bad on the floor. The younger man was a little smaller than Tyler and was beaming from ear to ear like an idiot.
"What’s the matter Tyler. You don’t have a hug for your baby brother?" He asked giving him a nudge but Tyler growled.
