The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 166

Chapter 166

“Miss Gifford,” Silas interrupted, his deep baritone cutting through clearly. “The past is in the past. I haven’t held onto it, and there’s no need to bring it up again.”

All the color instantly drained from Grace’s face.

“So you only came here to clean up Vivian’s mess?”

She had been incredibly clear on the phone-it was Vivian’s people who had beaten up her cousin!

Silas’s eyes were pitch-black pools; no one could guess what was running through his mind.

A moment later, he stated firmly, “She’s mine. Naturally, I take care of what belongs to me.”

*She’s mine.*

Had he actually just claimed Vivian as his?

Grace’s breathing turned ragged. A second later, the man spoke again. “And another thing, Miss Gifford. If even Chairman Fowler hasn’t found out who did it yet, how exactly do you know it was Vivian’s people? Unless… you were part of orchestrating tonight’s dinner?”

Logically, she wasn’t physically there, but she absolutely knew what was going to happen.

Or perhaps…

She had personally set the whole trap in motion.

The man grabbed the woman’s hand and walked away. Long after they had disappeared, Grace remained glued to the spot. Her blood turned to ice, and she felt as if she had been plunged into a freezing abyss.

Richard stepped out after finishing his call and glanced down the empty hallway. “They left?”

“Yes.”

Grace snapped out of her daze and looked at him.

“Richard, what do we do?”

She had called Silas over hoping he would step up for her. She never imagined he would openly side with Vivian instead.

How did it come to this?

How could it…

“What do you mean, what do we do? We keep digging. We need to at least find out who put your cousin in the hospital, don’t we?” Recalling Silas’s attitude, Richard frowned. “What exactly is going on between you and Silas? And who was that woman he brought with him?”

“It was her.”

“What?”

“Harry texted me earlier. He said he was having dinner with the boss of Astra Media. That woman right there, Vivian, was her.”

Richard narrowed his eyes. “Then we’re going to have to reassess this situation. You saw Silas’s attitude just now, didn’t you? Didn’t he always have a thing for you? What kind of game is he playing now?”

Grace pressed her lips tightly together, unable to formulate an answer.

How could she ever admit that she had lost to a woman like Vivian?

Vivian… this was all her fault.

The man’s icy glare flashed through her mind. Grace dug her nails into her palms, her limbs going completely numb.

Downstairs.

In the car.

Vivian sat in the driver’s seat, casually sneaking glances at the man beside her.

She really hadn’t expected Silas to defend her right to Grace’s face… Could that even be called defending her?

Was he just trying to make his former flame jealous, or…?

Vivian propped her chin on her hand and leaned over, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

“You said earlier that I was yours, you know.”

The man cast a sidelong glare at her. “Are we leaving, or are you planning to move into the hospital?”

“…” The man really had a terrible way with words.
