The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 173

Chapter 173

After seeing the police out, Zoe looked sick with worry. “Miss Fairchild, bringing Mr. Sterling into this… won’t he be furious?”

“Let him be.”

Vivian replied smoothly, strolling into her office.

“Harrison is Grace’s cousin. Silas paraded me in front of them last night to provoke Grace and use me as a shield.”

Vivian let out an indifferent sigh. “Since Mr. Sterling decided to stir the pot, he can’t blame me for throwing him under the bus.”

Zoe still looked utterly lost. “But what was his endgame?”

“He was testing me.”

“Testing you?”

“Exactly.”

Vivian twirled a designer pen between her fingers, her tone nonchalant. “He probably suspects I have some hidden backer pulling the strings. It’s ridiculous. If I actually had a powerful safety net, why would I have married him in the first place?”

Zoe opened her mouth. A specific name almost slipped off her tongue, but she caught herself just in time. “So, we just wait?”

“Of course. What else can ordinary citizens do?”

Clack.

Vivian tossed the pen onto her desk. “We cooperate if the police come calling. Otherwise, we get back to work. And keep a close eye on Mr. Beck’s schedule.”

Zoe nodded. “Understood.”

Meanwhile, at Sterling Enterprises, a high-stakes project meeting had just wrapped up.

Logan Lawson signed the contract, handed the file to his assistant with a satisfied grin, and waved his team out of the room.

Silas arched an eyebrow. “Is there something else?”

“Wow. Why so icy?”

Logan was in an exceptional mood, which always meant he was ready to push his luck.

“I just wanted to check in on my new business partner. Word on the street is you’ve got a new

woman by your side. Who is she? Is she gorgeous? A little trophy wife, or someone who

actually bites back?”

Silas picked up his coffee and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window. His tall, imposing frame was clad in an impeccably tailored suit, radiating raw, masculine power.

He didn’t answer.

But Logan wasn’t about to drop it.

He stepped closer, rubbing his chin like a detective cracking a case.

“Let me guess. You initially had zero interest in this Westside development, yet you suddenly signed on. And right before you agreed, you started asking questions about the Granger family. Therefore… this mystery woman is connected to the Grangers.”

Silas turned his head slightly. The morning sunlight caught his striking features, casting a golden glow over his sharp jawline.

Logan flashed a triumphant grin.
