Chapter 217
Silas fell silent for a moment before his low, magnetic voice broke the quiet, sounding almost as smooth as a lover’s whisper. “So, what exactly do you want me to do?”
“Well…”
The woman flashed him a wildly ingratiating smile. “Throw some money at it, maybe?”
He offered her a utterly fake smile in return. “Depends on your performance.”
Silas peeled her hands off his arm, stood up, and walked over to the bed to sleep.
Watching his retreating back, Vivian gave an indifferent shrug.
She wasn’t actually short on cash, and Silas knew it. Asking him for an investment was merely a strategic move to deepen their entanglement.
That was just the nature of relationships between men and women. The more intertwined they became, the harder it was to cut ties later. When his money was tied to her projects, traces of her would infect every corner of his life. He wouldn’t be able to forget her even if he
tried.
Only an idiot believed that tying money to a relationship ruined the purity of it.
Did avoiding financial entanglement guarantee absolute romantic purity?
Absolutely laughable.
Unbothered, Vivian saved her files, replied to two texts on iMessage, and finally shut down her laptop.
She slipped into the bathroom to wash her hands, her eyes drifting toward the bed as she
walked out.
He was staying in the master bedroom tonight.
What did that prove?
proved he listened to every word she said earlier. He kept his promise. She organized the closet, and he was staying to keep her company in bed.
Oh, Silas.
Vivian smiled to herself.
She practically skipped over to the bed and slid under the covers. The second her skin
brushed against his side, a deep, warning growl rumbled from above her.
“Go to sleep. Try anything funny and I’m kicking you out of the room.”

Vivian rested her cheek against his chest. It only took seconds to feel the searing heat radiating from his body, along with the steady, powerful thumping of his heart.
Being this close, the beating felt as if it were resonating inside her own ribcage. The twin rhythms echoed against each other in the dark, the atmosphere thickening with undeniable, suffocating tension.
“Silas.”
“…” Ignored.
“Silas.”
Two seconds later, the man snapped, completely out of patience. “What do you want!”
“You’re nervous.”

Vivian let out a muffled giggle against his chest, playfully blowing a breath of warm air onto his skin. “Your temperature is spiking, and your heart is beating faster. You’re in so much trouble. You’re falling-”
“Shut up!”
Silas clamped a heavy arm over her, pinning her firmly against his chest. “Go to sleep!”
Vivian had officially been reduced to a literal body pillow. She couldn’t move an inch.
She desperately wanted to keep pushing his buttons, but every time she provoked him, the man refused to take the bait. It was starting to lose its fun.
Before long, the rhythmic sound of soft breathing emanated from his arms.
Silas opened his eyes.
The faint moonlight from outside painted the ceiling in soft grays. Neither of them had the habit of drawing the curtains before bed-at least they had that in common.
Two minutes later, he slightly shifted the blanket.
Using his arm, he hoisted the sleeping woman slightly higher against him.
Buried under the covers for so long, her cheeks were flushed crimson. In the dim light, her skin looked luminous and flawless, her features so exquisite she looked like something out of a renaissance painting.
She had a thousand different faces. Vulnerable. Infuriating. Adorable. Domineering.
And she played every single one of them to perfection.
