Hearing something like that was more than a little insulting to her.
Grace's breathing lost its rhythm, but she still wanted to make one last desperate struggle. "You always use these kinds of words to stab at me. Can't we just have a normal conversation, Silas?"
Silas slipped his hands into his pockets, looking at her with a distant gaze.
It was as if he were telling her to spit it out and leave.
"Did Richard ask you to play the peacemaker?"
"No."
Grace noted his slight step back, her eyes dimming. "I just wanted to talk to you."
Silas seemed to find her reasoning amusing, pulling at the corner of his mouth. "Then do you know why I'm here?"
Because Vivian was staying here.
His gaze focused deep within his pupils, pitch-black and profound.
That intense pull made Grace's heart race uncontrollably.
"I know." She lowered her eyes slightly, avoiding the man's gaze. "Vivian doesn't have any family in Northside. Since she's with you now, it's only right that you take care of her."
"Since you know, are you trying to be the third party between us?"
"..."
How could he say that about her?
Grace took a deep breath, her voice soft. "Silas, you're just playing around with her, right?"
"Always assuming things will only end up hurting you." Silas's tall figure stood perfectly under the light, his lips parting to deliver utterly heartless words.
"I never said I was just playing around with Vivian. That's all in your head. Or did you think... even if you rejected my confession, I should still shamelessly stick around as your backup? Too bad. Vivian and I are serious, and the feeling is mutual."
For a split second, it felt as if something violently slammed into Grace's nerves, making her scalp tingle with pain.
[Serious, and the feeling is mutual.]
How was that possible?
That woman clearly didn't look like the type to settle down.
