The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 340

"Other than me, there's never been another woman by his side. He clearly confessed to me, so how could he just stop liking me out of nowhere?"

The woman's voice was a barely audible murmur. Liam remained quiet for two seconds, ultimately feeling a pang of sympathy.

"Did he ever say he liked you?"

Grace froze, entirely unable to answer.

Thinking back carefully... no.

Even on the day he proposed, he said, 'Do you want to be together with marriage in mind?' and not 'I like you, do you want to be together?'

It might sound like there was no difference, but it didn't hold up to scrutiny.

He just needed a marriage.

Grace's hair whipped wildly around her face in the wind. In her daze, she looked utterly broken.

Red light ahead.

Liam hit the brakes.

He casually rested one arm on the window. His entire posture was relaxed yet carried a sharp edge, his broad frame radiating power.

He turned to look at the woman beside him, his tone brisk and cool. "Just like you said, Silas never had any other women around him. The only reason you were there wasn't because you were special, but because your family allowed you into our circle. You clung to him, and he took care of you like a big brother. It was harmless, anyway."

It was nothing more than a little girl's infatuation.

A mature man wouldn't take his frustrations out on someone weaker.

His tolerance wasn't due to some profound affection for her, but rather his naturally composed temperament.

Whatever she wanted, he gave. At the end of the day, it just meant spending some money, and most of the time, he just instructed his assistant to handle it anyway.

"Later, his grandfather pressured him to get married. A familiar face was better than some woman he'd never even met. So he brought up the idea of dating, with marriage as the end goal."
