A short while later, Arthur Caldwell, playing the role of host, made a brief appearance with his wife. They exchanged symbolic pleasantries, thanked the guests for coming, and encouraged everyone to enjoy themselves.

Amara's eyes constantly drifted back to Vivian. Watching her converse effortlessly with the Caldwells only fueled the venomous jealousy burning in her chest.

She was just as capable, yet only Vivian was allowed to enter the family company right out of college.

Their father seemed to favor her at every turn, but everything he gave her came with a cage. She had nowhere near the freedom Vivian did.

The reflection of Vivian in Amara's brown eyes gradually warped into deep-seated hatred. In that moment, her motives were crystal clear.

About two minutes later, the Caldwells were called away and bid Vivian goodbye.

Amara gritted her teeth, gathered her skirts, and walked over.

"Vivian."

The greeting was spoken in an infuriatingly light tone.

Vivian thought she was hearing things. She turned her head and looked at her. "Forget your meds today?"

"Aren't you even a little curious about what Dr. Granger and I have been doing the last two days?" Amara stared straight into her eyes. If she was going to brag, she needed to see a visceral reaction.

"What have you been doing..."

Vivian repeated the words slowly, as if in deep thought.

After a long pause, she pursed her lips, pretending to look deeply troubled. "I honestly can't guess what else you could be doing besides each other."

"You...!"

The sheer explicit nature of her words made Amara's face turn crimson. "Is sex the only thing on your mind?"

Hearing that come out of Amara's mouth was actually quite amusing.

Vivian laughed.

"What if it is? It's human nature. Besides, weren't you the one who brought it up?"

Amara glanced around nervously. Thank God no one else had heard. Taking a breath to calm herself, she said, "My heart was acting up over the last two days. Dr. Granger stayed by my side the entire time. He didn't even go to the hospital."
