The Stand-In Who Burned the Script novel Chapter 45

"Double-check with the team in Switzerland. There can't be any mistakes."

"Yes, sir." The assistant gave a respectful nod. "You and Miss Fairchild are booked on a commercial flight the day after tomorrow. As for Miss Amara, I've already secured clearance for the private jet. It will depart at the exact same time."

Jonah's tall figure stood with his back to the light, casting his eyes in shadows and making his expression unreadable.

He let out a low hum of acknowledgment.

"Make sure all records of today's hospital visit are wiped clean. Everyone needs to stick to the same story. I don't want Vivian suspecting a thing."

The assistant asked tentatively, "We just tell her... that because you care so deeply for her, you simply wanted her to have a comprehensive physical exam while she was here?"

The man remained silent, silently agreeing.

The assistant hurried off.

Jonah stood there for a moment, his dark eyes resembling bottomless pools, masking whatever emotions stirred within him.

Vivian waited until he had retreated into his office before stepping out from her hiding spot.

She stared down the empty corridor, feeling as if it were the gateway to hell.

She clenched her fists, silently repeating to herself—

Soon... just one day left.

Jonah, I'm afraid you won't be able to save your precious sweetheart after all.

As they walked out of the hospital, everyone they passed greeted them warmly, tossing in envious remarks about how Vivian had found the perfect boyfriend.

She offered a faint smile, neither denying nor confirming the praise.

Jonah shot her a searching look, finding her behavior odd.

In the past, Vivian would have looped her arm through his and flaunted him to anyone who would listen. She would never have been this quiet and reserved.

Once they were settled in the car, he finally asked.

"Are you starting to feel nervous?"

Jonah reached over to take her hand, only to find it freezing cold. He frowned and squeezed it tighter, offering soft reassurance. "Don't be scared. I'm right here with you."
