Despite the raging storm outside, Vivian slept soundly through the night.
She woke up, got dressed and did her makeup, then had the hotel ship out the remaining items she had stored with them under their name.
After checking out, she met Chloe for lunch.
"You're packing up and disappearing so fast. Are you absolutely sure about this?"
"What else am I supposed to do?"
Vivian took a sip of her juice and leaned back lazily. "Whether it's a place or a person, once you're sick of looking at them, it's time for a change of scenery."
Chloe clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Who would have thought? For the past three years, it seemed like you were head over heels for Jonah, but you're the one pulling the plug."
She let out a dramatic sigh, her lips turning down in a pout. "But that guy really is a piece of trash. So what if he's Northside's crown prince? You're going to marry another kingpin anyway. For all we know, he could be a million times better."
Vivian wasn't holding her breath on that front.
She hadn't even seen what Silas looked like, and considering he was blind...
Who knew how it would turn out?
Seeing her fall silent, Chloe's eyes darted around mischievously.
She suddenly suggested, "Since you're leaving, why don't we... get a couple drinks?"
Vivian let out a laugh. "Drinks? Anyone watching would think we're a pair of functioning alcoholics."
Five minutes later, a waiter brought over a premium bottle of Romanée-Conti. Two long-stemmed glasses were placed on the table, and as the ruby-red liquid was poured, the atmosphere instantly shifted.
Chloe raised her glass and clinked it against Vivian's. "From this moment on, that bastard Jonah is completely out of the picture. Joining the Sterling family might not be such a bad thing after all."
"So what if he's blind? Maybe precisely because he can't see, you'll end up in control of the entire Sterling fortune. You'll be filthy rich without some man bossing you around. Doesn't that sound amazing?"
Vivian's eyelids twitched, but she nodded in agreement.
"Fair point!"
The two women drank glass after glass, quickly polishing off the entire bottle of wine.
