Vivian giggled. "Okay, Mr. Sterling."
She did the vast majority of the eating while Silas did all the work.
By the end of the meal, he had barely taken two bites himself.
"Aren't you hungry?"
Vivian sat back with a long, satisfied sigh and grabbed a napkin to wipe her mouth. "I'm stuffed. Thanks for the hard work, Mr. Sterling."
Silas glanced at her, taking a napkin of his own to slowly and methodically wipe his long fingers.
"If you're full, go upstairs. Rest, take a shower, and go to sleep."
"What about you?"
"I have some things to handle."
"What things?"
"..."
Silas paused, his eyes lifting to meet hers. "Work."
"Oh." Vivian didn't overthink it. She licked her lips and asked softly, "Want me to wait up for you?"
"No need. Go to sleep."
"..."
The corners of her lips, which had been turned up in a smile, instantly fell. "I had a dream last night. I dreamt you were begging me to spend more time with you. You asked me not to leave, called me your favorite baby, and wouldn't stop begging to sleep with me."
"..."
"I'm serious."
Her stunning face remained completely deadpan. "You were obsessed with me."
Silas didn't say a word. His dark eyes remained fixed on her, impossibly calm, as if waiting to see what outrageous thing would come out of her mouth next.
Vivian's lips curled back up. Leaning forward on her hands, her soft cheeks squished slightly, making her look undeniably adorable.
"And guess what? I woke up alone in an empty bed. I wanted to call you, but... my phone was confiscated. I was so pitiful."
"..."
Silas lowered his gaze and let out a soft chuckle.
It was a quiet sound, hard to tell if it was mockery or something else.
When he looked back at her, his eyes were dark and intense. "Do you really want it that badly?"
She was a fox.
You could never truly tell when she was being genuine and when she was playing a game.
Silas walked her to her bedroom before heading straight to his study.
A moment later, Simon Young's call came through.
"Mr. Sterling."
"Speak."
Despite the commanding tone, Simon hesitated, unsure of where to begin.
"I..." He took a deep breath, bracing himself. "You might need to prepare yourself for this."
Prepare yourself.
Those words alone meant this wasn't going to be simple.
Silas stood up and faced the window, slipping one hand into his slacks. His voice was dark and heavy. "Since when are you so hesitant? Just spit it out."
"Understood."
Simon swallowed hard. "Miss Fairchild's mother... she died a violent death."
