Vivian stared at her boyfriend. In the span of a few short days, he had chosen Amara over her in a life-or-death moment, accused her of being aggressive, and now called her unforgiving.
She clenched her fists and suddenly burst into laughter.
"It's no secret that I despise her. I never back down when I'm wrong, so why should I go easy on her when I'm right?"
Jonah's brow pulled tighter, his displeasure completely undisguised.
Vivian's eyes flashed with pure mockery as she reached for her cane.
"If you don't want to hear my awful attitude, the solution is simple." She leaned heavily on the cane, her cascading waves falling effortlessly over her shoulders. The nonchalant disdain on her face only made her look more breathtakingly beautiful. "Why don't you just move out? After all, your father is more than happy to spend his money on you, right?"
Happy was an understatement.
Ever since Dominic acknowledged Amara as his daughter, he had given her everything she asked for.
If she wanted the stars in the sky, he would have found a way to pull them down for her.
And now, she had Jonah wrapped around her finger too.
Just as Jonah opened his mouth to retaliate, Amara quickly stepped between them, playing the noble peacemaker.
"Vivian... today was my fault. If it weren't for me, Dr. Granger wouldn't have been delayed bringing you your food. I apologize. Is that enough?"
Look at her, the picture of sweet innocence.
It was exactly that sickening innocence that made the fury in Vivian's chest burn even hotter.
"Fine," Vivian sneered. "But an apology should look like one. The housekeeper has tomorrow off, so why don't you cook for us?"
"Vivian!"
Jonah growled her name. "Don't push it!"
"It's okay, Dr. Granger," Amara offered a gentle, self-sacrificing smile, though the corners of her eyes practically screamed martyrdom. "I used to cook for myself all the time. Besides, it's only right that I make a meal for Vivian."
Since she had agreed so graciously, Jonah swallowed his anger.
He shot Vivian a venomous glare before turning back to Amara, his voice dripping with tenderness. "Then get some rest tonight. I'll go grocery shopping with you in the morning and help you in the kitchen."
