Chapter 20
ems wighly to encentrate
My wife’s situation was weighing heavily on me and my mind was racing with a thousand other ideas. My ears were still ringing from the dortare words and I felt like there was an endless list of things I needed to do to protect my future.
However I was unable to stop worrying and I thought of Ava. Since I hadn’t seen her in a while I thought it was time to check if she had signed the file now
that she was holding it. She had to do it for me.
The clock was ticking so quickly and I didn’t want to glance at it. I didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that with every ticking second, I was running out of
time
1 sighed in frustration and shut my laptop slowly, I raked my fingers through my hair and pushed myself up on my feet. My head was spinning, still a jumble
of thoughts as I left my room.
My feet were moving on their own motivated by the need to know where Ava was and I hardly paid attention to the hallway. Her room’s door was just wide
enough. I was so preoccupied that I forgot to knock.
Without giving it much thought, I pushed the door open hardly even hearing the faint creak of the wood. Afterward I caught sight of her, she was naked. Avas body was still dripping wet as she walked out from the bathroom Her long hair hung loosely around her shoulders damp and the drops of water
trickled down her skin.
I wasn’t able to turn around as I stared at her naked form. My eyes wide widened in surprise as I stood frozen by the door. As I looked at her from every
angle, my mind went blank. She had a lovely body.
She was completely oblivious to my presence and vulnerable–until she turned around and saw me staring at her. Instant shock caused her eyes to widen
and for a brief moment, time seemed to stop.
Her body went cold. She froze.
Pas we stared at one another without being able to say anything as the tension in the air increased. In the silence that followed, she was left completely
exposed as her hand slowly dropped the towel she had been using to dab her wet hair and it fluttered to the floor.
My heart was pounding and my head was still in shock. This is not how I should have seen
her. I didn’t know what to do as I stood there fixed to the ground.
Then like a ton of bricks was thrown at me, I jolted out of my daze and realized that I was standing in her room staring at her inappropriately.
My heart was pounding against the walls of my chest as I quickly shut my eyes.
‘I’m so sorry.I didnt mean to”
I stumbled, my voice faltering from embarrassment. Despite my hasty turn, I could hear her footsteps in the room. I could tell she was reaching for the
towel because there was a
slight rustle and shifting of the fabric.
I turned and continued to keep my eyes closed praying that I hadn’t gone too far. A few

code tater i heard her steady yet gentle voice Yes, it’s fine Everything is alright. Y you can turn around
I aport my eyes slowix after hexitating for a moment unsure of what to anticipate. With the
sem blush of embarravement that I was experiencing she had wrapped the towel around herself.
The fact that I had so rudely interrupted her made me feel bad. She was obviously
uncomfortable and I didnt want to add to her discomfort. I couldn’t justify what I was doing.
“I sincerely apologize. I repeated this time in a
hushed tone.
I started to walk away butl stopped for a reason. I didn’t want to leave her in this state
whether it was because of the way she had told me it was okay or because of the odd
noticeatble tension in the air.
Not without adding a little more. Before I could go any farther though Ava stopped me. Even though her voice was soft and almost hesitant I was frozen by
the force in it.
“Wait.”
I turned back to her and looked her in the eyes once more. Her eyes were filled with curiosity, bewilderment and more.
We stood in an awful silence for a while. It felt as though time had stopped as the silence between us grew longer and heavier. I felt as though something had changed and my chest constricted.
I sensed something deep down but couldn’t quite put my finger on. I was unable to speak. She also couldn’t. As she stood in front of me wrapped in a towel
ber eyes still fixed on mine I simply stood there and watched her.
Something inside of me wanted to speak up to end the silence but I was at a loss for words. Words didn’t feel sufficient, they seemed to only ruin the
moment whatever it was.
We just stood there, Still…quiet. I had a strange feeling of vulnerability as though I had revealed myself as much as I had revealed her despite the fact that she had been caught off guard.
However it was uncomfortable for reasons other than our physical proximity. It was the emotional distance, the way we had been avoiding a conversation about something neither of us was willing to face.
The tension between us was growing and although neither of us had previously acknowledged it I could feel it.
I started to say something but nothing came out. Something didn’t feel quite right. Nothing I said could improve the situation or make it simpler for either
of us. So I remained silent.
The silence continued and I could feel the weight of everything that had occurred and everything that was still to come in the distance between us.
The future appeared hazy if not unstable. But I couldn’t help but wonder if our silence spoke louder than words could while I was standing in her qu
