The Stand In Wife's Revenge novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Ava stood motionless staring at me with flushed embarrassed cheeks.

The suffocating silence between us was accompanied by a racing pulse. I tried to take back control of the situation by clearing my

throat.

Despite the tension in the room I forced myself to say I uh I just came

to check if you signed the contract trying to sound informal. After

giving a quick nod Ava leaned over and grabbed the contract she had

set on the side table.

I couldn’t help but observe how the towel clung to her wet body as

she moved. For a moment I stared at her butt but then I made myself

turn away.

I tried to ignore the unexpected wave by shoving my hands into my

pockets, trying to ignore the sudden erection I was having. Her

motions were smooth and elegant and it was difficult to ignore the

way the towel embraced her body and accentuated her features in a

way that left me gasping.

S

I had never planned to see it but here I was unable to ignore my

body’s reaction. My mind briefly went blank as she handed me the

contract, her fingers briefly touching mine.

I’ve read everything. She said in a steady voice but there were still

traces of discomfort on her face. Thank you for your assistance,

Alex.

I swiftly took the contract from her and nodded. Of course.I said in

a tone that might have been a little too formal given how informal I

wanted this moment to feel. I’m just doing my best to assist.

There were more pressing issues that required my attention, greater

than distractions. She hesitated a moment, her eyes silently and

intensely meeting mine.

Her voice was soft

downstairs after you get dressed? We can discuss her in greater detail

there. In any case you and your baby most likely need some fresh air.

She tucked a damp lock of hair quickly behind her ear and smiled.I’ll

be done in a minute.

I nodded and smiled back.Alright. See you soon.

I turned and walked out of the room, I took a deep breath and tried to

get the image of what had happened out of my head as I walked down

the hallway. I had evidently showed up at the wrong time.

But something about today changed everything, something that gave

the impression that this was a pivotal moment. Perhaps it was

because I hadn’t considered her to be a distant person or someone I

didn’t know well.

I saw her naked today, damn it.

A woman with a life, a history and a future. A woman who liked it or

not had been introduced into my life. I stopped at the end of the

hallway leaning my hand against the wall for balance. I had to

concentrate.

I couldn’t allow my thoughts to stray because there was too much on

the line. My wife signed the agreementall of this happened at once.

Her image then struck me once more. Ava who was standing there with nothing on, she had water droplets glistening on her skin.

Wow,I muttered to myself.

I quickly snapped out of what I had just said after realizing it.

Stop it, Alexander!I muttered, shaking my head as though I were

straining to get the thoughts out of my head. Stay composed.

I knew I could not afford to become distracted. It was more than just

my private life or the events of that particular moment. There was

much more on the line. My wife’s condition. The agreement. The

agreement I had reached. Now everything depended on the choices I

made.

However it was difficult to ignore the images of Ava, her posture and

how her body had appeared barely covered in that towel.

Admittedly, there was a part of me that wanted to remain motionless
