Chapter 51
I parked in a corner of the lot and looked at the classy restaurant in front of me. The location was opulent with women wearing glittering gowns and men wearing tuxedos strolling hand in hand with their heads held high. It was the type of place where the elite went to unwind make connections and block out the outside world.
However this was not a place for me to relax tonight. It served as a springboard for a more significant endeavor. For a moment I stayed in the car and looked around. The level of security was strict possibly more so than I liked but I couldnt afford to make a mistake here. I had to be exact. I observed the guards positions and movements.
They were well–trained and effective but if it came to that I could manage them. I straightened my shirt until it was neat crisp and free of any distractions. After inhaling deeply I got out of the car and felt the cool night air caress my skin. It seemed as though nothing could possibly go wrong within the restaurants walls as the sounds of soft music and laughter drifted out from within. To avoid being distracted I eased the earpiece from my ear as I slipped inside.
Tonight I was here for a reason and I didnt need outside help. As I had anticipated the ambiance was elegant and sophisticated with the sound of glasses clinking mingling with the hum of conversation. I felt as though I had entered a world that I was all too familiar with. People tried to hide their troubles here and act as though everything was fine. I wasnt here for the charm though.
The truth was why I was here. Moving toward the corner booth my investigator had indicated, I looked around the room. Liam and his
fiancée were seated across from one another there. Naturally Liam looked just as I had pictured him–confident, well–groomed and sittin
with a sense of entitlement.
Though I had a sneaking suspicion that she wasnt as content as she seemed his fiancée a stunning woman seemed just as uncomfortable
in this setting. Liams eyes narrowed as he met my gaze and I could sense his anger building. He knew who I was. He was aware of my
purpose.
However he was unaware that this was about more than just retaliation it was about something more profound. Something much more significant than the trivial games he had been engaging in. The urge to storm up to the table and face him immediately washed over me But I was wise enough to avoid letting my feelings control me.
I stopped to give my thoughts some space. I really didnt need to make a snap decision. I had to maintain my composure. When the earpiece came to life my investigators voice could be heard calmly and steadily. “Alex remain calm. Wait for it. We’ll see where they ge
from here.”
Tension was creeping under my skin as I gritted my teeth. Naturally he was correct. This was not the moment for conflict At the appropriate time I would be prepared. The two of them were laughing a bit too loudly their voices rising above the din of the restaurant as Liam was deep in conversation with his fiancée.
He didnt appear to realize that his entire world was about to fall apart Everything he had constructed was false and I was able to disprove each and every one of them. A glimmer of contempt washed over me as I watched him pour another glass of champagne, his fingers fluid and practiced as though he had done it a million times
He seemed to practice every move and action he made He had chosen this life which was meticulously planned to create the appearance of perfection. However I was better informed. My rage flared up again more intensely this time He had exploited Ava taken a lot from her

and used her in his scheme
He thinks he could get away with it now But he was mistaken. He would discover that he and others like him could not hide fi Resisting the impulse to go over there and rip him from his cozy little bubble I moved in my seat However I was reminded to mel focus by the voice in my earpiece.
My investigator said “Just a little longer. We’re almost there.”
I let out a slow exhale attempting to control my feelings. Tonight I wasnt here to fight. The purpose of my visit was to shtim information, observe Liams plans and find out his next destination.
The altercation may wait. I kept a close eye on Liams fiancée as she leaned in closer and their conversation became more personal was something strange and out of place about the way she behaved. I could tell she was playing a part Was the being coerced all was she trapped in this relationship like Ava?
With my eyes fixed on their table I reclined in my chair. I would have my answers in due time as the night was still young. I didar na do this right away. When the moment was right I could wait for them to show their hand before striking. I saw it as the quiet before he storm.
