Chapter 278 A Mistake

After a quick check of the grounds, Petal made her way to the grand hall, her stone throne. waiting for her. She sat down calling, “Donna,”

“My queen,” Donna stepped forward, her voice respectful but familiar.

Donna was the first woman Petal had taken in at Elysium Haven, half human, half werewolf. After recovering from her trauma and being trained as a warrior, Donna had chosen to stay with Petal, becoming her shadow within the Elysium Haven.

“Out of the seven women who arrived at Elysium Haven half a year ago, one wished to leave. She feels confident enough to find her lost child and survive in the outside world, while the others have chosen to stay and serve. They wish to guard the borders,” Donna reported, her tone proud.

Petal smiled gently. “That’s good to know. Tell them that, although she leaves the Elysium Haven, she will always be remembered here.”

Donna bowed. “I will.”

The women leaving the Elysium Haven would leave as the best versions of themselves, empowered by the training and experiences they had gained. According to their capability, hey will choose to become the warriors in the packs and the stronger will go for claim the Alpha’s position. The decision to stay or leave was always theirs.

“And what should we do about the matter of the twins–the brother and sister–fighting over their father’s position in the pack?” Donna asked, handing her the paper.

“Their Alpha father was killed in the war, and both wish to claim the Alpha title,” Donna continued. “The brother has already declared himself as the next Alpha, claiming he was their father’s favorite and the rightful male heir…”

“Gender does not determine priority in my kingdom,” Petal declared firmly, signing the papers. “Whichever of the twins proves their strength and worth will become the Alpha.” She made her decision.

Gonna nodded.

After checking on the newly built rooms for the women who had arrived at Elysium Haven, Petal went to check on her rabbit, like she always did. The only difference was now there were two rabbits.

“What the hell did I do?” she sighed, guilt creeping in.

Chapter 278 A Mistake

She had mistaken Rob for another rabbit because of its one short leg, but when she returned, she realized her mistake. The mistake, however, was far gravier than she could have anticipated…because the rabbit refused to eat.

It had been panicking ever since it arrived, stopping its playful antics, hiding in corners, and sitting still, unmoving. The new environment was too overwhelming, and Petal could clearly feel it. That’s why it had been turning down both food and water.

“If this continues it might die,” she murmured, cradling the rabbit in her arms and looking into its red eyes. “I’m really sorry. But now I’ll fix my mistake.”

With that thought, Petal turned and headed toward the path she had vowed to never return. Shortly, she walked into the garden of flowers after three long days. Her steps were slow, her heart quickening as she stopped amidst the blooming flowers, gazing ahead at the cliff.

“I don’t know if it will work or not but…”

With the rabbit gently cradled in her hands, she closed her eyes, absorbing every small sound around her nature, the wind, the distant rustle of leaves and the river down the cliff until she fall sleeping and the sound of the waterfall reached her ears.

She slowly opened her eyes, only to find herself standing before the waterfall. Her heart quickened. So her suspicion was true. She could have this dream only in this flower garden. In this very place. Her gaze shifted to the cave where the man stood, just like before.

“I didn’t think you’d come back,” she heard him say, watching his lips move, his voice as familiar as ever.

Petal placed the rabbit down, encouraging it to go. “I too didn’t think you’d come back after deceiving me for so long.”

The rabbit took the narrow path, hopping toward the cave as she had hoped. But the man’s smile faltered. “Is loving my soulmate deceiving?”

Petal’s heart raced like a horse. She might not know many things but she was well aware of what a mate was. However, being neither human nor a werewolf or vampire, she did not expect to have a soulmate. That’s why her heart always returned to him in this dream again and again and there were sparks when he touched her-

She secretly clenched her thighs to control the strange heat she had been experiencing whenever she thought about him.

That’s when Theo’s words echoed in her mind as she responded, her voice steady but sharp. “Then, coming into my dreams, hiding your face, playing with me and pretending to be real when you had been in my dreams, was that fair? Weren’t you planning to take advantage of me?”

Chapter 278 A Mistake

Pure silence fell between them. She stood still, her gaze on his lips neither smiling nor speaking. He was just watching her.

Then, to her surprise, the man stepped out of the cave, his tall figure cloaked in black from head to toe, his presence commanding. As he walked closer, a faint, almost red aura seemed to wrap around her, making her heart race. In the broad daylight, his handsome face became even clearer, and he stopped just in front of her.

“I’m here,” he whispered, locking eyes with her.

Petal held her breath in disbelief. Was it really that simple to pull him out here?

“If I wanted to take advantage of you…” He began, his voice low as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her against his chest, “it would be this easy.”
